MicroLab mk3 37?

I recently got the MicroLab mk3 as a secondary keyboard and I really like it. The keys are great and for my use case it is almost perfect.
But now I wished there was a 37 key version.
Everything exactly the same, but with one octave more.
Would buy it immediately.

So, Arturia.
It would require only two steps

  1. Build it
  2. Take my money

Easy, isn’t it?

Happy to hear you’re enjoying your MicroLab!
I suppose it may not then be quite as “micro”, portability/being able to fit inside a bag easily is important for this one.

Simply call it the “MicroLab XL”.
XL for eXtra Long

Would still fit in a backpack.

Buy a KeyStep37. You won’t regret it!

Thanks for the tip, but doesn’t work for me.

  • Desk space in depth is limited even when the Keystep is only is only a little more than 2 cm.
  • I don’t know the keys, I really like the MicroLab keys. I also noticed that they are slightly bigger than usual mini keys, let’s say, from the Launchkey Mini MK3 or the Nektar GX mini, which have the same size. The minimal size difference gives me much better playability.
  • Only in white.

So my biggest problem is the added depth for controls i don’t need.
The MicroLab fits perfectly while i have enough free width space for 37 keys, which are simply better for play.

So, i still say, a MicroLab 37 is a no brainer

See, not even 1 cm in depth available.
But enough free width for a MicroLab mk3 37.
I measured it. :man_shrugging:

Not sure what the thing is behind your Microlab but it surely could be moved backwards to accomodate a Keystep 32, which is not exactly what you asked but is better than 25. And it has aftertouch. (Not poly though.)

Also I’m happy to be the bad guy who asks the questions only others are thinking, but why is this even an issue when you’ve got another two larger keyboards there.

I don’t understand? I mean, I also have multiple hands …

Maybe to clarify. The post with the image was meant to be funny … at least I chuckled a little bit :smiling_face_with_tear:

To clarify some more.
All keyboards have different use cases.
The Osmose is amazing. Nothing comes close to its expressiveness.
The Launchkey to the right has great full-size synth-action keys.
I added it because the Osmose has only 49 keys and used up the space of my old 88 keys keyboard.
Additionally, playing the Osmose is a little more “demanding”.
But one problem with the Launchkey is the positioning to the right. Two handed play requires to sit in front of it, which moves me out of the monitor and especially speaker sweet spot.
And here comes the MicroLab. It has really great mini keys, and when i work in the DAW, i can play something in without the need to pull out the big guns.
This keeps me in the flow. For this I move it to the center position where the keyboard and trackpad are, while moving them toward me onto the top of the Osmose cover.

And while the 25 keys are often sufficient to play something in, 37 would be even better.

Comfortable position is crucial for longer work, especially when you want to be in the flow state.
Space is always limited, which also always limits the choices how to position things. So you have to compromise.
And not to forget, the iPad on the right and the Launchpad in the middle are as far back as possible without falling over, so no, there is no space left for a KeyStep.

See … it’s not that simple.

Hello !

Clean & Lean ! Nice Setup !

I must agree that it is very cool, but did you try PolyBrute 12 with FullTouch ?

MicroLab 37 would not be that micro, but I understand the need, and we do take account on product requests so thanks for your feedback.

Cheers !

I considered it.
But this marvelous device also doesn’t fit.
See… simply not enough space.

The all new “MicroLab XL”:

What a beauty :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I still think you could find room for a KeyStep 32, which I know is 5 keys less than you want but the keybed is the best mini-keys keyboard that any money can buy and it has aftertouch.

That’s me,
calculating every square millimeter on my table.
Analyzing every possible position for reaching and using my devices the most optimal way.

My wife said, she doesn’t want to see me this way ever again.

The KS37 seems to fit tho

ks37

at least on my machine

Another recommendation for The KS37 here too!
The build quality, for a device of its size and price point, is SUPERB too!
Although i’m not a keyboard player, i have several keyboards around the place and most of the time will just grab the KS37 as it’s so handy, versatile and enjoyable to use.

 No it doesn’t…

Instead of photoshopping-in screengrabs of products which are absolutely not to any specific scale, why don’t you - wait for it - measure the actual space you’ve got with your Microlab removed and see what will fit based on real dimensions? The KS32 for example is 48cm wide and 15cm deep, excluding cables. I’ve just measured it.

And you clearly can shuffle that tablet backwards a couple of cm to accommodate the slightly deeper KeyStep. That’s blindingly obvious. It’s almost as though you don’t actually want us to find you a practical solution because you’ve got it into your head that literally only a product that isn’t available will fit your space.
