Why won't certain AUs produce sound unless bused through reverb?

M1 Mac Mini 16GB ram
OS 14.2
Mainstage 3.6.6

Collection 8 successfully loaded and validated. Certain instruments (Solina, Mini) will play through Output 1-2 no problem. Certain instruments (Clav, e.g.) will only play if instead bused to a reverb send (doesn’t seem to matter which) and there is no dry signal output.

What am I missing here?

Firstly do all the plugins work ok in standalone ie not in the DAW?

Secondly, if you replace a working plugin on a certain track with Clav for example, is sound output?

Hi @mmcclung64 and welcome to The Sound Explorers Forum!

Yes this is a VERY odd one indeed.
Please do as @Funtmaster suggests would be my first port of call on this one.

When you say they’re working as expected when routed to your main outputs does suggest there might be some kind of routing issue in your project.

Have you also tried testing this in a completely new project too?

Please do both of the above and let us know the results so we can look into it further if needed.

HTH!

Yes, the same problem occurs in a new empty “Keyboard” project.

It also exists in stand-alone mode. With the Clav (for instance), I can only produce sound if one of the Flanger, Phaser, or Chorus are switched on. Wah and Delay don’t have the same effect, though they do work as long as one of those initial three is on. Interestingly, turning on the Fender champ model then kills all sound.

In the DAW, it must be a reverb bus. A regular aux bus is no good, nor is a plain patch bus. (Note that midi messages and signal levels on the meters do show, just no sound.)

How are you monitoring? From your description, it almost sounds like one of your speakers is phase inverted so that a mono signal is fully cancelled out and only signals with L/R differences are audible.
