V Collection and Control Surface or 2nd keyboard?

Please excuse my ignorance here,
I am wondering, as I prefer weighted keys, if it is possible to use a stage piano or 88 key midi keyboard with Logic but use another device such as a control surface or a second (Arturia) keyboard to control synth parameters in V collection/analog lab? Did try the Keylab 88 mkII but did not get on with the keybed.

HI @N.Cassidy

You’ll be relived to hear that this SHOULD be incredibly easy to do withing a DAW such as Logic, i use Cubase myself, but it should still be possible.
In Cubase i would set the Midi Input to ‘All’ on the Midi track i wish to record the merged midi to.
Just make sure both your Midi Keyboard and Midi Control Surface are set to the same Midi Channel and you should be up and running!

It’s trickier to do on a hardware only setup though, we used to use a ‘Midi Merge’ box back in the 80’s and 90’s… whilst i miss the level of creativity in music from back then, it’s not all bad now :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

HTH!

Fantastic, thank you. So does that mean I could play with my 88 and adjust parameters with the control surface. Assuming you could not do the same with two keyboards attached at the same? ie play notes with 88 and adjust parameters on a keylab mkiii?

YEP! :+1::sunglasses::+1:

You could even connect an EWI/E-Drum Kit/Midi Patagonian Nose Flute (if one even exists) at the same time providing you have enough external Midi/USB ports… Cool or what!
