Plenty of experience with keyboards and synths, but absolutely none when it comes to midi controllers. I’m wanting to set my keylab mk3 up for a live gig. I’ve created all my patches in LPX (mac/sonoma). I want it to be as easy and fluid as possible at the gig, just using the main encoder to switch patches, no messing about with switching modes or midi channels.
In DAW mode this is pretty easy, as I can see the patch names and flick through them with ease, but now I want to be able to customise the mapping for each patch, so that I can control filters/effects etc. I honestly cannot comprehend how I’m supposed to do this… I can use midi control center to make custom user maps, but how do i switch patches without having to change user mode to daw? Is user mode useless for my application, should I just be staying in DAW mode and mapping everything within that environment? Is my brain broken? lol
I’m sure the answer is obvious to many of you. I sought help over a couple of weeks ago and had no replies. I posted in an ‘other’ forum and got no replies. I’ve scoured every video on youtube, read the manual, which is full of words but no actual information of any use to me.
I also don’t use MAC. But afaik Mainstage is aimed for live performance and Logic Pro for recording sessions. But that does’nt have to mean you can’t use Logic Pro for live performance.
You say you have created your patches in Logic Pro. But does that mean it’s in a Apple format?
Is it actually presets for Arturia instruments only and saved in Arturias preset formats? If that’s the case, then you for example can use Analog Lab in performance/ Stage mode and use Arturias Playlist system. You perhaps don’t even need Logic or Mainstage but just use Analog Lab in standalone mode.
Your controller use midi CC’s to control parameters. You might just need one midi CC template for your controller. But you can create more user templates for your controller - 6 i think.
Midi mappings in instruments are for the instruments, and not for each preset. But for example in Arturias instruments you can create multiple midi CC mappings called MIDI configs. But for performance you probably only need one.
If you work in a host like Mainstage that probably have a control system you can use and map, if you want to use it.
Arturias instruments have 4 Macro controls. Perhaps you in a performance only need to use those, Aftertouch, the Modwheel Expression pedal and what you plug into the controllers AUX inputs. So basicly you dont need to map much, since all this controls can be programmed to control different parameters in a preset. How much you can program depend on if you have the full versions of instruments or not.
The first thing for you to do is to spend time to learn about your tools and the technologies that you want to use.
Please ask more specific questions then, that someone actually can reply. What you ask perhaps need you take a class to learn things first.
There is’nt only one correct way to work. It can be very personel. And what to do depends both on your preferences and on what you exactly want to work with.
We don’t even know what instruments or whatever you wan’t to control.
I hope this can give you some ideas and help you step forward. It’s hard to say how simple or how complicated this will be for you. It can become both.
Arturia provide manuals for all their instruments. Apple also have manuals, if you actually need to use Logic and/ or Mainstage. As said, perhaps you just need to use Analog Lab for performance once your presets is created, if you only use Arturia instruments and nothing else. It all depend on your needs and on how you wish to work.
I’m afraid this is all i can do now.
