Upgrade path?

I have V Collection 8 and I noticed over the weekend that when I tried to update SEM V it brought me to version 2.13.2.5305 but the online manual is at 3.??. Are the update versions ceilinged for the Collection 8 such that you have to move up to a Collection greater than 8 to get actual current updates of the products? Is there an update path to e.g. Collection 11 from 8 or do you have to buy 11 at full price?

Hi there,

Yes there is an upgrade pathway if you own a previous version of V-Collection, you will never pay full price to get the upgrade.

Log into your Arturia account on our website, where your V-Collection 8 is registered. Then when you select V-Collection 11 purchase, you should see the correct upgrade price. Let me know if this doesn’t work. It should be at the value of $299.

Worthy of note if you do upgrade:

SEM V2 patches are not compatible with V3 as it is a redesign aimed at getting a more faithful sound. This thread covers it:

However, you can keep V2 installed (for as long as it will run on your platform), side by side with V3, so you can access your older patches.

The same incompatibilities occur with other synths - Mini V, CS80, Jupiter and others.

In my opinion, that’s a design decision that shouldn’t have happened. It detracts from the returned value of the paid update if I have to recreate my patches. It’s a little like it would be if I had to retype my Microsoft Word documents just because I updated into too high a version. In the case of SEM V, all a patch is is a set of parameters for the controls plus extra parameters for the Advanced section; since you’re still emulating an SEM with the same controls, parameters from a previous version should still apply. And if there are new or more nuanced controls in a new version of the plugin, the benign thing to do would be to pop up a message telling the user that they’ve loaded a patch from a previous version and we’ve inserted null or default settings for new parameters where necessary but if they save the patch, it won’t be compatible with the previous version. But from what I’m reading here, Arturia really disincentivizes me from buying an update if I know that patches I’ve put time and effort into creating have to be reconstructed from scratch. BTW what got me down this road in the first place was that in the course of trying to create a patch in SEM V, I found myself with no way to have any control over LFO 1; there’s a section on the panel for LFO 2 but none for LFO 1. “Read the manual,” one might say; tried that but on Arturia - SEM V there’s no manual for the SEM version I have (2.13.2).

Hi @NewNumbers ,

You are right a SEM V2 manual is missing from the archives.
You can download version 1.3.0. Click “Show all versions” in the link you’ve posted.

The SEM V2 LFO 1 parameters are between the ENV 1 and 2. There are a Rate and a Sync parameter.
This i s not present in the SEM V3 version.
