Product Naming Sequence

Sorry, I am just slow… but I can’t get my head around the naming scheme.

Can someone confirm. a version “V” or the product is higher or lower than a version "V2 or “V3”?

I keep thinking in terms of roman numerals. And to me a “V” is a 5. So is it different levels of version “V” products? I am looking at a present product that state “CS-80 V” but I have a “CS-80 V3”.

And then this one is, even more confusing. It states, “Jup 8 V” and then in small font below “version 4”. I have a “Jup-8 V4” listed in ASC. So will this work on what I have or I need to upgrade Jup-8?

But this one states, “CS-80 V” and “version 4” in small font below it, but I have “CS-80 V3” listed in ASC.

Yeah, you’re getting very mixed up. In this instance ‘V’ in Arturia’s naming convention just means Virtual, not version 5 of something. Pretty much all their virtual instruments which are copies of a physical device are called {something} V

Hey @nitrateaudio

As @Jon_Vincent states, it’s the ‘Arabic’ numerals that denote the version number and not the ‘V’ and the reason, at least as far as i understand it, why it is so.

I spent most of last Friday trying to get my own brain to understand that it was Friday and NOT Saturday… brains can be weird things sometimes!

Hi all.

It actually can be confusing, when Arturia name Analog Lab 5 Analog Lab V. Now Analog Lab PRO or PLAY.

It can also be confusing that Arturia allways name the latest version of a instrument V in Analog Lab, while the the old versions get a number.
It is confulsing when for example Jup8-V4 that’s the newest version of Jup V’s is named Jup-V in Analog Lab, and when a V5 arrive, then the V5 will be the V and V4 will then be called V4 and not V.

The oldest version was V. That should be V1. The next version of an application be V2, then V3 and so on. And that’s actually how it is. The highest number after the V is the newest version.

BTW: You can’t use CS-80 V4 presets in the V3 version and vice versa. Both can be used in the newest Analog Lab.
The same for example apply to JUP-8 V3 and V4.

thanks for the replies. Glad I didn’t pickup the sound sets then.

It doesn’t help that they went from “V Collection 9” to “V Collection X” either.

Keep in mind that you can use all the presets in Analog Lab. You just can’t do deep editing without having the correct full version. You can do the editing Analog Lab offer even if you don’t have the full version the preset is programmed in.
