Paying twice for software? (legacy versions)

Hi if I own the v collection and Astrolab asks me to download a legacy version of a synth in the collection because the new version won’t open, is it Arturia’s policy that I must pay the full price for that individual legacy version

Cheers
Pete

I don’t know what Arturia’s pricing is for those older versions, but yes they count as separate software that you don’t own, since the newer versions of them are included in VC 11. I assume AstroLab support of the new versions should be “coming soon” (…still).

So doesn’t that mean that they are selling software that the end user can’t use? Eg SEM can’t be opened even though I purchased it as part of the Collection.

AstroLab is its own product, with what I assume is a special build of Analog Lab running on it. Unfortunately, that means AstroLab doesn’t instantly get access to new V Collection stuff as soon as it’s released. So something like the new SEM V3 won’t be useable in AstroLab until they release an update that adds it (which their website expects to happen by July 17).

If you have an AstroLab and V-Collection 11, the only “legacy” instrument that you would need before the new AstroLab 1.5 update (scheduled for July 17th) that will add the new VC11 instruments to AstroLab, is SEM V2, which was replaced by SEM V3 in VC11.
And I’m pretty sure that if you contact Arturia Support through your account, they will give you the SEM V2 license at no cost (because you own an AstroLab and VC11).

Note that your AstroLab comes with SEM V2 presets that you can play on AstroLab.
You only need the SEM V2 license if you want to edit the presets with your computer.
What you can’t do until AstroLab update 1.5 is load SEM V3 presets in AstroLab.

Also, make sure that the “Include Legacy Sounds” option is enabled in Analog Lab Pro, so you can also see the SEM V2 presets there.

OK thanks Sean I’ll get in touch with them.

Cheers!
