One single script for Logic Pro, MainStage, and GarageBand

I was surprised there was no integration between the Keylab Mk3 and GarageBand. I wrote to support about this and mentioned that all keyboards from other brands that supported Logic Pro also supported GarageBand, many of them using the same script. I got a “we will share this with the tech people” answer and never again heard about the topic.

This weekend I installed the 1.5.0 firmware and download the MainStage integration to test it, and when I read in the manual that you could have either MainStage script installed or Logic Pro script installed, but not both, it felt soooo wrong.

It took less than 90 minutes with Claude to get a single script that works with both MainStage and GarageBand. It should also work with Logic Pro but I can’t test that.

I won’t share the modified script as the original ones are “— Copyright (c) 2023 Farès MEZDOUR” (yeah, the MainStage one also says 2023), I have a Python script that takes the Arturia ones and generate the merged script but I don’t know if it would be legal to distribute that either.

But in any case, it is perfectly doable to support GarageBand on the Keylab Mk3 and to have a single script to support MainStage and the DAWs.

Hi @madmalkav and welcome to The Sound Explorers Forum!

I do not work for Arturia myself, i’m an ‘external moderator’ and so am not qualified to comment on the legal aspects here, but it does sound like it would be rather interesting for many GB users for sure.

Perhaps Arturia Staff could comment?

I could not agree more. GarageBand has been around forever, and a lot of newcomers start there. I even used it myself back in the day. If you want something simple and not overcomplicated, it is probably the best way to go.

Supporting the integration just makes good business sense. Would you not want your product to reach the largest possible audience? That is especially true for entry-level users. They are your future, and they are the ones who will drive growth and adoption.

Nice work getting a single script running for both MainStage and GarageBand. You have shown it can be done, so hopefully Arturia picks this up officially.

The same script should also work for Logic Pro, but I can’t test that.

Hope someone from Arturia either ask me for the files to review them and in case they don’t find anything wrong share them, or give me the OK to share them myself as unofficial/non-supported by Arturia

People won’t be replaced with AI, but certain people will be replaced by other people who know how to better use AI. You, with the help of AI, have achieved what the Arturia programmers couldn’t be bothered to do. You’re one of the survivors right here.

Have you tried to contact Arturia directly? or only posted this topic here hoping that the relevant staff would see it? (this is a user forum, not directly moderated by Arturia)

Yes, I tried. I’ve sent them a message again just in case the previous one got lost somehow.

PS: weird thing to do to have a forum on the company internet domain that is not monitored or moderated by the company…

Hi @madmalkav ,

Arturia do attend this forum. Sometimes they also reply here.

I don’t know what Arturia shall reply to you. Arturia may log this, especially as you have contacted them directly.

I agree the tone of my message was inadecuate, unfortunately as the message was quoted on a reply I cannot edit it.

PS: But I could delete it, good. Let’s see if I get an answer. I hope it is some kind of yes, because currently the experience is quite bad not being able to use Garage Band and having to change scripts to use either Logic or MainStage.
