Installing V Collection 11 coming from V Collection 9

Hello! I’m kind of resurrecting an old topic here, but I finally have some time to install V Collection 11. I currently have V Collection 9 on an old computer, but I have a new Macbook Pro that I use 99% of the time now, and I have V Collection 11.

I originally installed all of the samples for V9 on an external samples drive because I like doing that. However, I feel that Arturia makes it a little difficult to do that compared to something like Kontakt Libraries, so I’m pondering just installing the V 11 library on my new Macbook Pro. Not sure what is recommended or best practice.

I want to be able to reference old projects that have V9. If I decide to install V11 content on my samples drive, will the install see anything redundant from V9 and overwrite it or ignore it? Or does it duplicate? Also, will older sessions find the V9 samples and use those even though I don’t have V9 installed on this new computer? If not, do I have to install V9 as well? If I’m not mistaken, you have to install the samples and can’t just install the plugins, right? If I have to install V9 and choose the external samples drive for the location of the samples, will it overwrite what’s already there, or duplicate it? Will it get rid of presets? I just have a lot of questions and I’m pretty confused about this because it’s not as simple as updating a player engine and pointing it to an external drive like with Kontakt, so I’d love to hear how to manage this and what best practice is.

Thanks for your time!

Mike.

Hi @Return_On_High. Welcome back.

Most of Arturias instruments do not use audio samples to create sound.
The Instruments that does/ can use audio samples look for the samples in Arturias ressource folder.
Multiple installs of Arturias instruments can not use the same ressource folder. Resource folders can not have the same location. Ressource folders are as you know installed on the path you set in Arturia Software Center that’s installed on each computer - for that computer.
Many of the instruments in your two V-Collections are the same. In case an instrument have a new version number, then both versions can be installed alongside each other, if they can’t share presets. It can for example be Mini V3 and Mini V4. Mini V4 is a new rebuild and can therefor not use the Mini V3 presets. Mini V3 will work as long as it can run on your computer.
On your old computer you can just install all the new instruments that you can see is not installed. Many instruments will already be installed. No need to uninstall you old V-Collection.
On your new computer just install your new V-Collection and instruments from your old V-Collection that’s no longer in the new - like the Mini V3.

I personally prefer to install everything on internal drives, unless i’m forced to do otherwise.

I hope this help you to understand how it works.
