Feature Requests

I love how the pre-73 sounds and the fact that the Input Gain only adds saturation, rather than actually increasing the amplitude. Things I think could be improved upon:

  1. An option to toggle back and forth between continuously variable EQ frequencies and the stepped original frequencies. Or, maybe, just that clicking on the original frequencies jumped you to them.

  2. An option to type values in for knobs, not just twist them.

If either of these things is already possible, please just let me know how to do it. Thanks!

Hi @benjaminfrog and welcome to The Sound Explorers Forum!

I’ll answer these in order as best i can, us ‘external’ moderators don’t actually work for Arturia so, don’t have access to certain things of course.

Sweepable EQ… i really don’t see this happening, i remember one or two requests on the old forum about this too.
The thing is with something like the hardware it emulates, it has fixed frequency points, and THAT is one of the reasons for its popularity, it steers things in certain directions which is one of the reasons they sound the way they do.
I know of at least one other manufacturer that HAS implemented this, but, personally, i’m not impressed with it. YMMV of course though.
You CAN, of course, use the pre-73 for saturation and then use a different EQ after or before it to shape the tone as you wish; which is what many people do.

I think it’s important to remember that the hardware units have been used in MANY professional studios on MANY commercial releases over DECADES by myriad HIGHLY successful engineers/producers and artists precisely for this reason.

I have some hardware units with fixed frequencies, such as a UA 610b, SSL Fusion, to name a couple, and i wouldn’t dream of wanting to convert them to sweepable EQs as they just work so well as they are; and if i do feel the need to use extra EQ i can patch in one of my hardware EQ units or do it post tracking.

  1. ‘Typeable’ values, this one does come up from time to time as you’re correct in your assumption unfortunately.
You CAN fine tweak values though by using the right mouse button instead though.

HTH!

Hi Mat,

Thanks for your response. I’m confused, though. The pre-73 already has a sweepable EQ. What I want is an easier way to jump the standard, stepped frequencies.

Thanks,
Ben

Lol you’re correct of course, could have sworn it was fixed… Must have been thinking of a different emulation of that unit.

No, not currently i’m afraid… just have to get it close with the left mouse button and dial it in fully with the right mouse button, i did double check this time…

No worries. Thanks. The Ctrl button seems to work for finer adjustments, too.

I’m going to reach out Arturia directly to request this. It’s cool to have the option of other frequencies, but I’d get a lot more mileage out of the plugin, if it could be toggled on and off. Fixed frequency bands makes decision making a lot easier and speeds up my workflow.

An option to have fixed frequencies on the Pre 73 would be nice.

Hi @JTM

Might be an idea to create a separate feature request for this one as it might get missed…

HTH!

I thought I was just agreeing with the poster above. But if the moderators want to make my post a new thread that’s fine with me.

I like how the Sitral EQ has the option of fixed or continuous frequencies. It would be cool if Pre 73 had that option too.
