Unlike many other software instruments (U-he, UVI, Native Instruments, Spectrasonics, GForce, etc.), Arturia’s still lack search browser persistence. This means if you duplicate an instance of Pigments (or any other), it will completely forget what search focus it has and reset. In other words, aside from the last-selected patch, everything else is lost.
Why does this matter?
Say you’re making a track based on some of your favorite sounds within a sound bank, EACH time you add an instance, you have to re-enter the search parameters. Wouldn’t it be easier to simply “remember from last time” and go from there?
All search parameters are seemingly forgotten: this includes shuffle state, selected sound bank, keywords entered, etc.
There exists a clunky sort of workaround where you can add some sounds to a playlist, and then use that playlist to refer to them — but it exposes another design omission and bug, which is YOU CAN’T FAVE SOUNDS IN A PLAYLIST (!). The heart does nothing.
Does anyone else relate to this? It’d be nice knowing it’s not just me noticing it on here, I’ve previously spoken to talented sound designers who feel the same way, as the lack of this feature also makes it difficult to create demo tracks based on a sound bank.
What I would say, as a sound designer, I work almost entirely on my patches in my sound banks and I would like the ability to jump straight to my stuff without having to select “USER”, “Designer” and then “Banks”.
Maybe the ability to save searches and/or sort criteria as a user named shortcut in the browser would be a good idea.
@Funtmaster YES! That’s exactly what I’m talking about — you know where you wanna go time after time, so why should more clicks get in the way?
Maybe the ability to save searches and/or sort criteria as a user named shortcut in the browser would be a good idea.
This too! I’ve gotten used to saved shortcuts from macOS Finder sidebar, so having something similar here could be very useful.
And generally remembering things as-is is universally useful. It might even extend the very limited option to change “Start Page” to “Last Used”.
Yeah I also would like searches to remain persistent if I duplicate an instance of any instrument.
Duplicating an instrument and continuing your search is alot faster than adding to favourites or a playlist only to have to go back through it at a later stage while still duplicating your instrument as you add them one by one to your project. It works a against the speed and spontaneity of a workflow.
