I have installed everything properly using the ASC, so I don’t think that I screwed anything up, myself.
I have seen several duplicate presets in Matrix 12 V2. Every time there is a duplicate, it’s from the same artist. The presets almost always sound the same. Sometimes they have identical names - other times similar names. They usually have different tags and categories.
Example duplicate preset names :
Crying Pad
Dark Pad (and the other one is DarkPad)
Emo Strings (and the other one is Emo Strings SS)
Energy Sync
Mooving Breath (both have same name but sound slightly different)
New Metal (both have same name but sound slightly different)
It’s possible that they are duplicates from different Patch Collections. If you click on the triple bar icon to the left of the last column in the patch browser, you can change it to see which Collection the patch is in.
If there are actual duplicates you could try the following:
This will rebuild the patch database and hopefully resolve the issue. Be sure to make a copy of the file it tells you to delete - just in case.
You mention some presets. This presets:
Energy Sync
Crying Pad
Dark Pad (and the other one is DarkPad)
They are all Factory presets. But you can also have installed the old free soundpack “Ambient Soundscapes”, where the “duplicate” presets is from. (That soundpack was made for the original Matrix-12 V.)
The preset Emo Strings and Emo Strings SS are both Factory presets. The later look like it was created with the original Matrix-12 V since the designer initials is in the preset name. I assume Arturia decided to keep both, or it’s an error.
The strange thing is that this is the first Arturia VST, where I encountered this duplicate issue.
I’m a bit hesitant about messing too much with it now. It doesn’t bother me that much. I was just curious to see if I was the only one having duplicate presets.
It’s easier for me to ignore the duplicates if the preset(s) is not worth tagging with hearts or colors. Problem is - if it’s a good preset worth saving, then I guess I have to tag both of them. Otherwise, if I only tag one of them, and I forget it, and some day decide to delete duplicates, then I will be deleting a duplicate preset that is tagged. This will leave me with a preset that I like, which is not tagged.
I hope it makes sense.
I actually already did this (deleted the *.db3 file) when I tested, which files and folders contained heart and color tags, mentioned in one of my previous topics.
EDIT:
Just found another “duplicate” called: “Mooving Breath”. Weirdly, despite having the same name, they do sound a bit different.
Again - There is nothing wrong. It’s the same explanation as i gave in my first post.
You can check the bank names for the presets. One version is from the Factory bank the other version from the Ambient Soundscapes soundpack/ bank.
Try and check all the Ambient Soundscapes presets designed by Jean-Michel Blanchet. You have a version in the factory bank of them all. It’s 10 presets.
My guess is Arturia decided to recreate those for presets Factory presets in the new version after the free soundpack was created. After that they must have converted the whole soundpack for the new presets format as well. The original Matrix-12 V did’nt have the new preset browser, and not the same preset format.
A quick update with some weird behavior regarding the “Mooving Breath” preset. As I said, there are two of them, and they sound different, despite having the same name.
Now, the weird thing is that if I set a heart next to the one above, then it’s just that one preset that gets marked, but if I set the heart next to the one below, then it marks / unmarks both of them.
This doesn’t happen with any other preset with the same name. That is really strange.
Could someone please test this? I am curious to know if it’s just me…
Hi Aleque, indeed what you’re seeing aren’t true duplicates: they’re the ‘same’ presets appearing in 2 different banks. There are a few rare cases of this, such as AstroLab having some selections from Pigments and Tribute banks, and Polybrute also having a small selection from a few of its soundbanks.
Meaning if you have both the soundbank and the Factory bank installed and sort everything alphabetically with no bank filter, you’ll see those presets twice. They may present slight differences as one version will be more “polished” or newer, or modified slightly, Sometimes the name is tweaked or the metadata as well.
To avoid seeing them twice, you can simply browse by bank instead of globally.
