Conversion fees? Was ist das? [a workaround works]

I paid 68 CAD (= 49 USD), Jord, after changing shipping address to US, not on may payment information. It’s on a page before payment information.
Then Arturia changed my billing to CAD; from now on, I’ m billed in CAD.

There you have it… You lied on the shipping address for a lower price. This is by your own admittance.

There is no other way to put it.

Jord

Ok, but who did I lie to? Arturia.
Now, I don’t have to lie to Arturia: they bill me in USD (correction: not in CAD).

It’s fraud on many levels. You might think it’s a little innocent lie, but you open up a whole series of red flags on your credit card profile by doing that. But that’s your problem if you want to believe that you didn’t do anything wrong. Arturia’s problem can get a whole lot worse for letting you.

Jord

Whom exactly is he defrauding?
Words have meanings and what he’s suggesting is not fraud by any measure and CC companies don’t handle these things in the way you are (fraudulently ) implying.

Seriously don’t locker room lawyer when you’re not qualified.

He should be able to pay in the currency of his choice and have the conversion in the point of the transaction he chooses and not be charged spurious fees for the privilige of purchasing software.

Go look in the mirror before you start posting such uneducated comments like the social justice warrior you pretend to be.

Ask yourself the simple question: did he live in the country he claimed on the checkout?

If you actually did your research rather than posting like a troll, you would’ve discovered that various payment processing organizations disallow this because it is indeed fraud.

Instead, here we are!

Jord

That’s weird I have a perfectly legal forwarding address in the USA (where I don’t live) that my CC company is completely fine with. It is not fraud. Nobody is being defrauded. Please identify which laws are being broken before you accuse me of trolling.

You’re a bizarely angry person.

What is the social justice warrior rant even about?

I am late to the party.

Until recently I lived in Italy. My Arturia details reflected this and I paid in euros.

Upon my return to the UK I updated my details to reflect my new UK address.

Arturia still makes offers to me in euros and I see no way to change this.

I blame Brexit.

You really don’t get it and perhaps you should think before stepping in with your brand of response. That’s funny… you coming at me like a troll and calling me angry. Wake up!

YOU have a legal forwarding address. As long as your credit card reflects that, it is not fraud.

Big difference to what you decided to respond to!

Jord

No, blame Arturia for their predatory policy they enacted.

However, in your case, the GBP is less than the euro at this time. That puts you at an advantage. Not willing to trade in USD outside of the US puts countries like Canada and possibly Mexico and further south at a severe disadvantage. There’s no way I will pay for this type of exchange and I hope it bites Arturia come Black Friday if not sooner.

Jord

Im sure your lack purchase will be sorely missed.

Im not sure why this has all blown up. If there are differences in currencies, it must be minor in the scheme of things. An extra 4% here, a couple of quid there etc but you still get some cracking software. Im happy to let the Arturians have an extra brioche on me.

I’m not trying to be funny - I’m suggesting that you’re talking way beyond your qualifications.

Are you a lawyer specialising in international commercial law across these specific territories?

If you are I will take your advice with caveats. If not I won’t even waste time looking.

The 4% is really a smoke screen here. What you might have missed is the actual currency involved. That is the real problem since it prices everything far out of affordability. If you look earlier in this thread, you will see FOREX comparisons between the euro and USD prices and what it means for countries such as Canada where the conversion rate is higher for the euro.

As to whether a single customer is lost, that could be insignificant and inconsequential. However, when that customer becomes a watchdog against such predatory practices, warning others, that should be their real concern. The world is a smaller place these days.

Jord

Yet, you have no thought to wasting others time with your need to deliver your brand of social justice, coupled with unqualified, uneducated and yet inflammatory judgments. And then you turn around and ask for other people‘s qualifications?

Can you smell the irony here?

I suppose that by your statements, you seem to think that financial institutions, investment firms, foreign exchange facilities, arbitrage, customs, taxation and even government workers are nothing but lawyers. Right?

Or that you have to be a lawyer to define what murder is?

Seriously!!

Allow me to give you a Latin phrase given to me by a lawyer: Ipsa Loquitor

Look it up.

If you want to waste your time responding, please do. The fodder that you are bringing to this is rather entertaining to say the least. However, I can assure you that your own responses have proven that you are playing out of your league.

Jord

Seeing I work in the financial field with direct CC T&Cs application experience I think I will trust my experience rather than some weird guy who rants at people.

You’re not a lawyer and you’re simply wrong.

Now go away. You’re tiresome and not very clever.

Please all. Do not discuss people.

Please read this:

What experience? You haven’t relayed anything that pertains to any experience whatsoever. Again, nothing but whacked social justice and pure fodder for entertainment.

I work in government infrastructure, interfacing, various ministries, including the solicitor general to various major vendors and call centres. We deal with cybersecurity on a regular basis. I think I’m far more qualified to speak about fraud based on what I see on a regular basis than any droppings you are offering.

I also worked in major financial and investment firms.

That’s just a taste of what I have done in the past 45 years.

Again, you haven’t stated anything that qualifies you in any way. Your response is nothing more than a joke. And yet you feel the need the waste everyone’s time.

Jord

I feel this thread has run its course and should be closed before someone is reprimanded. The tone of the conversation is well into the demeaning territory and getting very personal wth name calling.

Maybe a reality check is in order. We are just musicians who make bleepy ploppy sounds using software.

Lets all take a deep breath…

Ok people, this one is getting a bit silly and incredibly off topic now, so i’m locking the thread…
to reiterate what @LBH stated, it would be a VERY good idea for people to acquaint themselves with The Arturia Code Of Conduct.

Play nicely!! :+1::sunglasses::+1:
