Compatibility Issues on M1 Max and Pro Tools

Hey everyone, I really hope you can help me in what’s starting to feel like a hopeless situation. I’ve recently upgraded to a Macbook M1 Max and installed Pro Tool 24.06.0 on it, running everything natively. After installing my Collection V 8 on it, most instruments seem to work fine on it. It was only when I opened a slightly older session that I found out Pro Tools can’t run CS-80 V3 even though it’s installed and runs well on Logic Pro X. I should also mention that open with Rosetta, is not ticked off and that, according to Arturia it should be supported to run natively. I also tried re-installing the library and rescanning pro tools plug ins. What am I missing here?

Hi @barhuss. Welcome to the community.

Are your Pro Tools M CPU compatible?
Look like it’s a DAW related issue.

Have you tried to load CS-80 V3 in a new project? If it make a difference, then it could be “old” project related perhaps?

Thank you for your reply!

Pro Tools works perfectly on this computer (fully compatible), as do other Arturia plugins through Pro Tools.

CS-80 also works well on this computer and on Logic Pro X. When the project loads, I get a message that the plugin’s AAX file could not be found or that it requires Rosetta to be used on this system—only it doesn’t make sense because the installation should be fine and the plugin should have native compatibility on this system.

When I load another session in Pro Tools I simply can’t find the particular plugin (for the same reason, Pro Tools can’t seem to see it).

It’s definitely specific to ProTools but also to this particular Arturia plugin.

Hi barhuss,
Since CS-80V’s current version is CS-80V4, you might want to check that your CS-80V3 (especially the AAX plugin) is the latest update of V3 (3.10.1.1843) and that it is correctly set to run in Arm64 mode.
See the detailed info under V-Collection at Arturia FAQ - Mac Compatibility
If I’m not mistaken, when VCollection 8.2 was released with M1/M2 compatibility, ProTools “native” wasn’t ready yet, therefore it was not possible to test all the Arturia instruments as native AAX plugins in VC 8.2 with ProTools then.

Do you also own CS-80V4 (VC9 or VC X)? If so, does it work OK in ProTools 24.06.0 natively?

It look like CS-80 V3 AAX never have been compatible with M1 CPU’s.
It appear to me me, that AAX first was compatible with M CPU’s in CS-80 V4 version 4.2.
It should be the same for all plugins you have that was upgraded to a new version in V-Collection 9. Does for example your Piano V2 that was upgraded to V3 in VC9 work as AAX?

I think you’re on to something…I don’t know much about V-Collection 9, but I did notice Piano V2 also had a similar issue (unlike other instruments in the library).

The thing is, I had already checked the Mac Compatibility link shared by @Sean_W (thanks, Sean), and both plugins are ARM64, so they should be native compatible. If what you’re saying about AAX is right, I found no disclaimer about it being a possible issue anywhere and I wouldn’t know what to do with that information either. I can’t export the settings to use and bounce outside of ProTools, and even if I got CS-80 V4( which I do not own) it wouldn’t be able to load with the settings I had on my session with V3.

I assume you should be able to use Rosetta mode, and then bounce the track to audio.

Thanks @LBH . I ended up doing that, which required re-installing Pro Tools (as I couldn’t use Rosetta for whatever reason). I have now committed to audio and ready to go back to Native.
