So, I have V Collection X, FX Collection 5, and Analog Lab Pro on my MacBook Air, the main Studio Computer (Windows 11), and a Windows Laptop. I want to move my presets from one to the other, usually from the two laptops to the main studio. For the most part, this is easy. You locate the preset folder for each, copy the newer banks and I’m good to go. And for those of you that may need to know the location of User presets:
Windows → c:\programdata\arturia\presets
Mac → \library\arturia\presets\
In each case, there’s a “User” folder. I usually copy the whole thing, as back-up, then paste what is newer into the studio computer.
Now then, how do I transfer banks for the “sampler” instruments where I have used my own .wav files? Do I need to locate those, or were they copied into their respective folders, say CMI V’s preset folder, or Emulator IIV’s folder in some proprietary format?
And if this is not automatic (should be a default), is there a way to collect these samples except hopefully one by one hoping I remember where they all are?
I took the easy way out, and save all presets etc on an external drive: I do it for all my software instruments. Saves space on the internal drives, too.
I wish I had done this, really. But I travel with my Macbook for shows, and just like doing sound design on the road. As for the other laptop, I sometimes take it with me on local road trips or the cafe. I believe your solution is the best. But for the studio, it means yet another usb device in a room full of controllers, cameras, etc. But you are correct!!
Just to chip in… yep, @pentermezzo solution is possibly the most elegant way around it.
If you’re only using samples etc for your Arturia plugs, i’d just create a sub folder in the root of the main Arturia Resources folder and place it all in there.
I’d do the same for each company, if i were using multiple libraries on the same drive, and possibly a ‘common’ folder for files shared between them.
There are some great flash drives out there in the marketplace these days too!
I personally prefer using internal drives. I think that’s better. I use external drives for backups.
It’s the paths that’s important.
Have’nt User samples used in your Emulator presets been imported when you created the presets, so they already are located in the Arturia/ Samples/ Emulator folder?
Perhaps also some of the User samples used in your CMI presets are located in the Arturia/ Samples/ CMI folder?
Keep in mind, that you also can use the Export and Import functionality in Arturias applications. This should as far as i recall export and then import samples to Arturias Samples folder in a User folder for the instrument.
If user samples used for an instrument are located in the instruments sample folder, then you always will have the correct path, if you copy to that location. You can handle the Samples like you handle the presets.
