AstroLab 37

Just ordered one from Sweetwater. It’ll arrive on Friday. I’m going on a cruise on Saturday, so it’ll be perfect for playing all of my band’s sets while we’re aboard the ship. Much easier than carrying one of my larger Astrolabs and better than a Keylab and MacBook. It’s even going to fit in the Analog Cases Minifreak case that I already have! Can’t wait!

Hey @darrelldiaz
Please let us know how it’s going when you dock!

It looks like a VERY attractive package for the live player for sure, as it covers A LOT of ground!

Must say I can see the appeal of the new 37-note model for giggers.
Arturia just need to smarten-up the delivery of the firmware-updates so that the new instruments Arturia deliver in upcoming versions of V Collection that Astrolab owners might also buy don’t remain incompatible with their Astrolabs for about half a year. That’s easily the most common complaint.

EDIT: I still hate that tiny screen though when 25 years ago we had workstations with 5"x4" full-colour screens. Imagine one of those with touch-sensitivity commanding a full-blown version of Analog Lab. I feel what we’ve got now is minimalism gone mad. But hey they’re selling so what do I know.

There’s a HUGE amount of VERY positive noises going on with Social Media currently, it looks like this is going to be a real winner for Arturia!

Will the AstroLab 37 manual be posted soon? I’m hearing conflicting reports of features by YT content creators. Would love to RTM while waiting for mine to arrive.

HI @EnjoyRC

According to the main Arturia site, you should be able to download an English manual from this page.

HTH!

@matjones Thanx, it just got posted last night. It wasn’t there yesterday. Downloading now.

Those workstations didn’t have WiFi
AstroLab has the AstroLab Connect app (iOS / Android), so you can use a smartphone or tablet as a touch-screen remote for AstroLab. Not a full-blown version of Analog Lab, but many features available.

@Sean_W I hear you, but I shouldn’t really need to do that to get a great experience. I’m not just aiming at Arturia here, but generally as consumers we seem to have grown bizarrely accepting of the idea that to get the best out of products which are supposed to be stand-alone and not peripherals like a midi controller, you need to pair the product with another device you’re expected to already own, and the motive is nearly always just the mfr saving a few £/$/€ while effectively marketing the product’s shortcomings as a feature.

EDIT: But anyway…I didn’t intended to take the thread O/T. I do genuinely wish Arturia well with their new AstroLab 37.

Hey @Jon_Vincent

I DO take your point there regarding having to use things like computer editor/plugin type devices in tandem.
But, i can firmly remember back in the 1980s and 1990s wishing for EXACTLY that kind of thing when working with workstation synths like the M1/O1W etc, as well as Samplers like the Casio FZ1 i used to own. Honestly, i’d have LOVED that kind of functionality back then… Don’t get me started on editing sequences in ‘event lists’! 🫨😝

I have to admit i rather like the MiniFreak ‘ecosystem’ too, it suits my own way of working really nicely.
I think this is one of those things that’s down to individual user preference and not a ‘one size fits all’ situation.

Arturia, don’t touch the screen!!!
there are many hours, you don’t need a touch screen to play your favorite tunes!
i love this concept of Astrolab! also, i want this 37keys model now!!! i had the 61, but due to space management i couldn’t keep it. This looks like that it will feet to my space perfect!!!
an almost blind player!

i have a question, since this thread is opened and, for discussion,
it would be possible, to buy the Astrolab37, by paying via Paypal, directly from Arturia’s store, (i’m already customer, i have the V-collection) by paying, let’s say, 1/3 of the amount, and the rest in to 2 next months?

This is not exactly what you asked but places like Gear4Music support PayPal payments, and PayPal itself natively supports interest-free Pay In 3 for items of this expense as long as you aren’t block-listed due to poor credit.

(…also why very time when i try to quote someone does my reply appear as an edit and without the quote? It’s starting to get tiresome.)

@Jon_Vincent If you try to quote immediately following the post you’re quoting, the quote is removed due to it being redundant. Not necessary. This got me a few times too.

Ah right. Which then appears immediately as an edit, that I didn’t make, the system did. Not massively useful in threads that can have various sub-conversations, but thanks for the clarification.

AstroLab 37 is here! Updating the firmware now. It’s so small and light! Feels really good in the hands. The Keynes is the same as my Minifreak. Gonna perfect for the cruise!
