xFAT bad for music production?

Hello friends and neighbors,

Storage dilemma:

My 1TB Windows 10 Dell DAW xFAT formatted computer has 20% free space left, which some say is the least you should have for proper functioning, so…

I just bought a 500 GB SSK external SSD (NOT the overheating model), which can be formatted either xFAT or NTFS . I want to download and install any further expansions and sound libraries onto it, and possibly move all my other libraries there too.

Some producers insist xFAT is bad for this purpose, and it should always be formatted NTFS. But if I’ve had NO apparent problem with anything on my main xFAT computer, would it really be an issue leaving the external drive xFAT? Besides, wouldn’t both drives have to have the same format for the sound libraries to be usable?

Hi @JMBAND ,

Through the years i know people have reported very slow performance and other issues including a huge use of space using exFAT.

If needed i suggest you ask Arturia support through your account, how it matters for Arturias products.
You can also do web searchs about it.
Here is an article from the company NI about it:

Arturias ressource folder is only on one location. Install paths for different things is set in Arturia Software Centers (ASC) preferences.

Thanks, LBH, for the only reply. I wonder if most people even know hard drive formatting is an issue!
