Why won't Analog Lab save my expression pedal settings?

I’ve got a split preset with Rhodes across the whole keyboard and DX7 on the top octave. I have assigned the expression pedal to part 2 (the DX7) and saved the preset. It works fine. When I go to another preset and come back, the pedal assignment is lost.

I have tried saving under a new patch name and get the same result.

As I said, it always takes the assignment and works fine – and I save it before going to a new patch – but then the assignment is gone when I come back to it.

I tried going into the full DX7 to maybe assign the pedal to the volume there and then use that patch in the AL preset but the volume slider is red in learn mode and won’t take the pedal assignment.

Suggestions?

Hi @Matt62704 ,

Are your Analog Lab updated? Which version number?

Are you saying you have selected Part 2 for the Expression in Analog Labs Keyboard Settings - (not in the Midi Learn section in the right panel)?

Expression midi CC#011 is often used in modulation matrixes and is a reserved midi CC
In DX7 V you assign Expression pedal to a presets parameters in the Matrix under the MODS tab in the Advanced view. You select the Expression as modulation source. (The assignment is not done in the MIDI learn section in the right panel.)

Version 5.10.7.5324. Should be up to date according to my ASC.

This should work in Analog Lab — in fact it does work when I assign it as long as I don’t navigate away from that patch. And as I noted earlier, I always save the patch after making the assignment.

Frustrating.

What exactly should work?
Since you don’t answer my questions, then i can’t help you further.
I can tell, that an update to Analog Lab is coming soon. But i don’t think, you should have any issues, if you do it the way i wrote about above. That’s how it should be done.
EDIT: I can add that changes in the MIDI Config in the right panel is not saved with a preset. EDIT END.

Sorry — I think I confused things in my reply.

The issue is on this particular patch in Analog Lab the expression pedal setting for part 2 is lost whenever I exit the patch. I’ve got other multi patches in AL where it works fine.

I’m setting and saving it in the keyboard control section of Analog Lab where I’ve got the DX7 tubular eruption patch on the top octave as Part 2.

I posted this mainly to see if other users had had this issue too. I can probably address it by opening the DX7 in standalone mode and creating a custom config there but I think this is an AL issue.

I don’t have that DX7 V preset. From which bank is that?

But what i dont understand is that you talk about two different things.
Setting the Expression to Part 2 in Analog Labs Keyb. Settings and make Expression settings in DX7 V do two different things.
if you in Analog Lab’s in Analog Labs Keyb. Settings select the setting Part 2, then the Expression only should affect Part 2 with what the Expression is set to modulate in the Part 2 preset.
Changing Expression modulations in that Part 2 presets (in this case the DX7 V) have nothing to do with the Keyb. Setting in Analog Lab.

If you in Analog Lab’s Keyb. Settings set the Expression to Part 2 and save the preset/ Save as - then the setting should be kept. if this is’nt the case, then i suggest you reinstall Analog lab and see if it make a difference.
As said, then there probably is a new version of Analog Lab on it’s way. I have a newer version than you, that was taken back because of bugs. But it save and recall the Keyb. Setting fine.
I can’t remember issues in the version you have either.

If it’s only one multipreset then perhaps the preset is corrupt. Perhaps try to replicate it then

You can always ask Arturia support through your account.

@LBH To close the book on this, your suggestion about a corrupt preset was correct. I remade the preset from scratch and the pedal assignment holds.

Then out of curiosity I went back to the original, deleted and replaced both parts, repeated the split and pedal assignment and it was lost when I navigated away. Deleted the preset and all its re-named versions that I created while troubleshooting this.

Hadn’t even occurred to me that the preset file could have been corrupt.

Sometimes strange things happens.
It’s good the reason and a solution is found. Thanks for letting us know.
