Do the new play animations server a purpose or are they just dancing baloney? The old animation was a stylized spectral visualization of the signal. You could see what frequencies were present. It gave you information about the patch. The new animations just seem to pulse when a note is played. I have nothing against making something look good but unless it serves a purpose, it is just a distraction. Unfortunately, we only have an option to disable the visualizer. I really would like an option to bring back the old animation or have some sort of animation that shows what is going on rather than just a bouncy animation that seems to do nothing more than show that a key was pressed.
Hi @Silence
This is one of those âsubjectiveâ ones really, some people find the new visualiser quite stimulating, really enjoy it and say it helps to fire their creativity⊠someone i spoke with in RL spoke those EXACT words to me yesterday.
On the other hand, some find it a distraction, rather than an enhancement, personally, iâm in the latter camp, so i switch it off. I donât work for Arturia and that is purely my own personal opinion.
I take your point regarding the previous âspectrum analyserâ type visualiser, but most, if not all DAWs have some kind of frequency analyzation anyway, so itâs kind of moot in that respect.
Again, personally, i donât want to be seeing a bunch of flashing lights that arenât REALLY telling me something, iâm not one for âeye candyâ personally, but some people areâŠ
HTH!
Same here - very annoying, so I turned it off. Thankfully I donât really use Pigments in Play mode much.
Same/same. I do like useful indicators that arenât too flashy. I learned this âthe hard wayâ when constructing my first modular. I was being stingy with LEDs because of increased current draw. Now with virtual synthesis i usually welcome the extra visual clues (Reaktor and VCV Rack). Flashy graffix that donât indicate anything (or much of)? No thanks.
A synth with as much capability as Pigments deserves a good âwindow.â
I kind of like the new visualizer. I liked the old one, but the reason I like the new one better is that it tells me right away what, in general, to expect, even before playing a note. If the display is bright red, I know that itâs going to sound brash or powerful, and is likely to have a noise component. If itâs green, itâs more soothing than red, and if itâs blue, itâs more likely to be a pad or similar. At least thatâs what Iâve gotten out of it in my limited experience. Likewise, the shapes of images will give a hint of timbre and note length. Having said that, I donât spend a lot of time on the Play page, but it was helpful when auditioning the new patches in the Pigments 7 sound bank. The downside to the previous spectrum display was that it didnât show you until you played a note or two. I mostly use the other pages, because thatâs where the work is done. I view the Play page as just an overview, but itâs nice to have. When Iâm not editing presets itâs a nice alternative to all the movement on the Synth page.
