There's no way to load your own samples onto MiniFreak?

There’s no need to go that harsch on Arturia. Give them some time and sample import will most likely be available. I guess they are assigning resources on new stuff so that is why it’s taking some time. They have delivered on most of their promises so far. I hope they keep it that way, it has really lifted many peoples eyes and given Arturia a much better reputation.

I mean, I hear what you are saying. Perhaps taking a break instead of coming back each month to mark the continued lack of progress might be healthier. The forum here has been too quiet and overall excitement has waned.

I’m giving Arturia until summer to deliver on a firmware update for the Minifreak that might deliver the ability to upload samples, but honestly I’m more pissed that they aren’t responsive about other features at the moment.

I still dabble with it, but perhaps buying the Minifreak was a long-term mistake due to Arturia’s general lack of seriousness over designing and building their instruments to last for decades.

And the fact they take a rather long time to address hardware related issues at all. Look at the Keystep / Pro. I believe the Polybrute’s were in need of updates that took a noticeably lengthy time to address given it’s their flagship. It’s disappointing that they would release the next version of the freak line with these features (obviously) in mind, and based on the Maturity of the Micro, at this point it’s just annoying that they deliver what feels like unfinished features. That really kills the vibe for lots of people rather than delaying it a few more months and keeping the allocated resources on that project until the Sample and Wavetables expansions were fully realized. And the only new effect we got was Super Unison? No new reverb types or delays etc?

How about an FX editor on the software that allows you just a bit more under the hood control? What about any amount of additional under-the-hood capabilities realized through the software’s visual interface? Idk man. I’m hoping / assuming if they choose not to add user samples and wavetables as a buffer update before the next major update - they would release quite the upgrade that would give people nothing to want for except those pleasant surprises we just kept getting from the Micro after the 3rd year. We’re coming up on year 3 here.

Hey,

You cannot currently import your own samples, but it is a highly requested feature : )

I cannot say more than that…

When Arturia promised those features back in December of last year and said it was coming soon, it’s more than a highly requested feature. It’s a feature that was promised and never delivered. So if it’s not included in 4.0, you’re doing nothing here but dangling a carrot from a string.

Hi Rich,

Could you show me where Arturia promised this feature?

Thanks

Seriously Joe, scroll up. Message 5 in this thread quotes an article that states exactly that Arturia promised a future update “soon” with the ability to load customer samples.

Thank you Randy! I really appreciate your help. Too many people are trying to act as if this never happened, and the gaslighting coming from some of them has been pathetic.

Now for whoever marked this topic “SOLVED”… it’s NOT SOLVED. Quit the gaslighting! Arturia made a promise that they did NOT deliver! So it’s NOT SOLVED!!!

“Arturia promised a future update “soon””

There’s your answer Rich.

Have a good day.

People, be careful what you wish for…

In Arturia time is that another 6 months?

For my part I want to say, that I like the MiniFreak and how Arturia is adding features to it, even if it takes some time. I bought the MiniFreak for the features it already had - not what I hoped it could get sometime. If one bought it for future features hoped for - one should be patient or change their buying-attitude I think.

Thank you Arturia for what you deliver to us even after the devices are a while on the market.

My “buying attitude” toward Arturia is already set toward never buying again from them. You sound like a paid shill.

Rich just calm down. You even liked my post on the 25th december 2024 [Changing OSC type doesn't show up on screen? - #3 by marturi.9]. You really think I am being paid by Arturia, just because I do not support your attitude in this case here? Come on…

My thoughts are you buy a product for what it can do at that time - perhaps with a hope and desire that the feature set will expand over time. The Minifreak has been pretty well served in terms of new features since its launch and they were free updates. Pigments is another example of fantastic free updates. We are on version 6. I bought version 1 and have not paid a penny for upgrades since.

It’s not unreasonable to want certain features, so request them. It seems a little unreasonable to demand them. Arturia has a roadmap. We may influence it somewhat and they would be remiss in not listening to us (I believe they do) but ultimately, its their product and their decision

I too would love to be able to add user samples. Now that V Collection 11 is out the door, as is the Astrolab 88, maybe Arturia can dedicate some time to this update.

There is now an (unauthorized) way to craft your own samples for the Minifreak Sampler engine. It should be understood that Arturia has not vetted or created this method, so you should conduct your own due diligence when experimenting with this.

Nice one.

Seeing the code, this should work as expected but:

  • You’re limited to 3s by sample
  • It will break all factory patches that uses the original factory samples
  • This is a hack, we cannot guarantee anything on it

I don’t see any other points, that’s clever and I don’t think (personal opinion here) there is any risk to use it.

Have fun !
Cheers !

In my review of the code, it defaults to 3 seconds for the sample unless you provide a different/bigger number. Longer samples appear to be possible.

I have not tested this, though I will sometime in the coming days.

The real question is: how much memory/storage space is allocated to sample storage and use in the engine, and how long can a sample actually be? I’m sure a perusal of the factory samples would provide some answers.

I would guess that someone looking to experiment here would be smart to back up the factory samples to a different folder before playing around.
