The V_Collection is any easy one to justify or not. Do you want or need the specific instruments inside the collection and do something that is not part of Analog Lab. There are a whole collection of different old classic synths and sounds that are unique to that particular era and device. ie: You won’t get the CS80 sound from built in set of instruments that comes with your DAW, so if you want to make that sound you either find $100k to buy one off Reverb, or you buy the plugin from Arturia.
The FX_Collection is a harder one to decide as lots of the effects are a common function that becomes part of the music production chain. So for example there are thousands of different Reberb plugins that all do a similar type of function. It comes down to the final sound output and how well it fits inside your workflow I guess. I know that FX has 34 (might be 37) effects to make your sound yours. I see about 8 that I could use that I don’t currently have a DAW equivalent.
What I am asking of the regulars who post here. Do you use the Arturia FX plugins? what is your opinion of them. Are they better sounding or just easier to work with? Do you have a favourite that you use to make your sound?
Hey @innovationsinm
Yep i use some in every project i do here.
The COMP Sta gets used on bass ALL THE TIME, it’s that good!
CHORUS Jun and DIMENSION-D often get used, Bus EXCITER-104, Comp DIODE-609 LIVES on my drum bus, at least until i can afford the real hardware lol, FET-76 as i like to use different iterations of an 1176 for each electric guitar in a mix.
I usually use either a DBX160 or Comp VCA-65 on snare and sometimes on toms. Hitting the VCA65 HARD and then clamping the signal down with the peak limiter can add some nice distortion to snare and toms.
Dist TUBE-CULTURE if i feel i need saturation on something specific, i use Efx-FRAGMENTS on guitars more than i thought i would, it’s great for adding ‘pads’ when you’re feeling lazy
Flanger BL-20 is probably the closest plugin flanger i’ve heard to analogue so far from any manufacturer.
Pre-V76 is lovely on piano and for giving vocals just a touch ‘more’ subtly. Pre TridA sometimes gets used for ‘taming’ unruly electric guitars as the filters are AWESOME for this.
Rotary CLS-222 is an interesting one too, it can sound crazy and awesome on electric guitar as well as organs, don’t use it that often as it’s such a specific effect, but it’s fantastic at what it does.
That’s ‘the usual’ stuff, but often a project will call for something more specific and there’s plenty in the FX Col to cover most things.
For me it’s a combination of being able to work quickly, to keep the enthusiasm on the boil, and the sound… if i didn’t like the sound and felt they slowed me down i just wouldn’t use them.

I just bought the Arturia FX5 bundle but haven’t tried them out yet.
Usually I use at least one of: SPAN (not an effect but for monitoring output), TDR Kotelnikov (compressor / old school ‘glue’), Valhalla Supermassive, and Cherry Audio’s Stardust 201 (will be interesting to compare with the Arturia version).
