Seq / Arp mode never worked

Consider my question a noob one, as I have very little MIDI knowledge.

I have my Keystep plugged to a Minifuse 2 via USB, then on my comp, also USB.
The tiny pair of cursors on the back are on USB mode.

I never managed to make the ARP and Sequencer work.
For instance, on Arp mode, when I click the Restart button, it flashes instead of staying lit.

Any idea what I should do ?

HI @JSR and welcome to The Sound Explorers Forum!

Are you using a DAW with your setup too? Something like Cubase/Logic/Reaper/Bitwig etc?

If you can be a bit more specific about your setup, that will help us to help you.

It could be one of a couple of things that spring to mind, but they’re dependent on exactly what equipment you’re using and how it’s set up.

Hello,
sorry I’m late, I didn’t see someone actually replied.

I switched the tiny cursors on the back of the Keystep to Internal, and the Arp works now.
Still trying to figure out how to use Chord Mode now !

My DAW is FL Studio.

@JSR
Great stuff!

I think you SHOULD spend some time with the manual, as it’s rather more powerful than you might think initially.
If you’re going to be using the ARP function with FL or any other DAW, you’ll need to set the sync mode on the KS to ‘USB’ or ‘Midi’ so it will take its sync from your DAW.
You MIGHT have to enable something like ‘send MTC’ or similar in your DAW also, so it sends the correct sync to your KS.

Thank you so much !

I do need to spend some time on the manual, but I don’t find it user friendly for an old guitarist like me who doesn’t even know what a “clock” is

Here’s a screencap of my midi settings in FL, maybe you can see if something’s wrong here.

Hey there

In this case, ‘clock’ is the sync signal sent and received between midi sequencers, to keep them in sync.

If you’re wanting to use the KS’ ARP with your DAW, you’d need to set the sync to ‘external’ or ‘USB’ (if you’re connecting it to your computer via USB) so your DAW and KS don’t try and ‘fight or compete’ for control.
This is a VERY common occurrence known as a ‘master/slave’ setup, where one device takes ‘master’ control over other devices connected to it.
So, if you want to control the ARP on your KS from the DAW, you need to set your DAW to ‘Send Master Sync’ once you’ve done the above to your KS.
