i have a couple of pedals that i’d like to route the output of various channels through.
I have a
AudioFuse Studio
X8-in/X8-out
two gutiar pedels
a synth with a analog output (Moog m32), plugged in to the ADAT 1, (this works )
a abelton 12 daw
first i tried using a trs → send/recieve tr split as described in the manual (1.4.3). No luck.
then i tried plugging the effect out into x8-in ADAT 1 and the x8-Out 1 to the input of the pedal. tried routing via the DAW, no go.
I’ve been trying various combinations for a while now with no results.
Setting it up in the DAW as a send device etc
what i’d like to happen is that the pedel is available on a channel and i can route devices through it.
I think i have everything i need to do what i need, just unable to figure out how to get there.
If some one can assist on this, i’d appreciate it.
Hello @bruce.williams ,
if those are guitar pedals, they are most likely working at instrument level.
Therefore, the input of the pedals should be fed from Aux outputs L/R of the AF Studio, which can be set to “Reamp” (reverse DI), and the output of the pedals fed to one of the from inputs 1-4, which can be instrument.
The Aux L/R outputs can come directly from Main, Cue1, Cue2, ADC 1-4 (inputs 1-4) or DAW (USB 7/8)
if you want to route a track from the computer to the aux outputs, use USB channels 7 and 8 as sends.
If you want to route an external device that is not connected to inputs 1-4, you can use one of the Cue mixes as 2 Sends.
In the example below, Analog In 5 is routed to Aux L via Cue 2 L, and ADAT input 1 is routed to Aux R via Cue2 R:
Did that, as per the first sentence in the paragraph
“first i tried using a trs → send/recieve tr split as described in the manual (1.4.3). No luck.”
Update: Actually had the connections backwards , one coming out of the aux and the split going to the pedal (duh) turning it around, solved that, and moving it to the cue (as per your suggestions ) allowed me to see how it works, thanks
I have a couple of questions:
Using a split tsr i have the aux l/r going to the input of the pedal.
i have the out of the pedal going to analog 5 on the back of the AFS.
i have an instrument plugged in to ADAT 2
The sound comes out of the ADAT2 no problems
The Analog 4 receives signal, but it’s barley audible, if i move the volume up just a little bit i get a high pitched sound like feedback.
The pedal has a switch for inst or line, i have it set inst, I’ve also tried line.
I’m confused!
The only use for a Split TRS is for the inserts on Input 1-4.
This has nothing to do with the AUX L/R outputs.
Again, if this is a guitar pedal (instrument level) it can only go into one of the front inputs 1-4.
If you can switch the pedal output to Line (output switch?), then you can connect it to rear inputs 5-8. What type/model of pedal is it?
And below, you mention signal on Input 4. What is it?
On the screenshot, there’s nothing coming on Input 5.
It looks like you are creating a feedback loop.
You should not send the signal coming back from the pedal output to the pedal input.
From the screenshot, your settings are wrong
You have both Input 4 and Adat2 going into the Cue2 mixer with Pan centered, which means they are going to both AUX L and AUX R
You are listening to Cue Mix 2 on your speakers (and headphones 2). Normally, you should be listening to the Main mix, not Cue 2 which is supposedly used as a Send.
What’s on you Main Mix?
your source signal coming on ADAT2 input via the AFX8 In
Aux L Out to your pedal Input (instrument level → Reamp on, if line level → Reamp off)
your pedal output to instrument Input 4 (in front)
(guitar pedal using regular TS “guitar cables” for input and output, no TRS, no Split)
Cue 2 Mix (to AUX L/R): only ADAT2 input panned hard left to AUX L output (send)
Main Mix (to Speakers): ADAT2 input controls the unprocessed signal source and Analog 4 input controls the “return” processed signal. In this example, I have muted all the other inputs.
Very Cool, Thank you so much. I now understand how the front 4 analog rout to the aux, and how the cue mix works in the environment. I’m learning more and so far the journey has been fun! With this new knowledge i’ll re-read the manual and find this info in there. I am more of a visual learner, but once i get it in my head i can tie the info in the manual to the process.
Thanks once again for taking your time to explain this.
