Restoring my hard drive to an earlier state, proper procedure re: activation/installation

my current w10 install is strangely slow.

i have a backup from a year ago which performs much better.

if i switch back to the old ssd, i will need to reinstall my arturia products. should i unactivate/uninstall them from the new ssd before i make the switch?

Yes i would uninstall them first, then go to your account and deactivate any activations you have from there, you should get 5 activations per account.
Also check C:\Program Files\Arturia, Delete the folder C:\ProgramData\Arturia (you might want to back up any user presets you might have before doing this. you can find them in C:\ProgramData\Arturia\Presets, and any user samples you might have, C:\ProgramData\Arturia\Samples.

Then log into ASC and install them from there, let us know how it goes!
