Record scratching

Are there any presets that simulate scratching on a record, like a turntable? Maybe using the modwheel to advance/reverse the turntable? Or one of the encoders if not that? Is it even possible to do that with the Astrolab? I know for the most part the knobs seem to have their functions pre-assigned.

Hi @gregh,

I don’t know of any factory presets. But i can’t tell for sure.

Perhaps. I don’t have time to think about it now. Perhaps later on. It depend on the synth. If one for example have a wavetable in Pigments with a Scratch sound, then i guess it can work by controlling the Wavetable Position.

Astrolab use presets designed in Arturias applications. You can in Astrolab do what’s designed for the presets to be possible to do in Astrolab. Owning the full applications give full control to create that design yourself to be used in Astrolab.

BTW - About scratch sound. There exist audio samples out there. Some of Arturias instruments can use audio samples.
It’s much about what you are looking for.

This would be my own advice too, i’d use something like Emulator V to build a bank or two of different scratches over the keyboard, each one covering an octave or so.

A quick web search for royalty-free record scratches samples throws up a whole load of examples.
Or, if you know a local DJ, someone with a suitable turntable, why not try the ‘old school’ approach…

HTH!

I will assume it’s possible to create simple scratches using a Noise generator in a synth and a short filter envelope. Perhaps also use Resonance. Perhaps use some Drive or Distortion too. A BitCrusher might provide good results.

There is this free scratch plugin which may do what you need - Armory
