Recommendation for ALV "idling" with the least amount of resources

Hi y’all,

What’s the recommended way to have a preset in ALV generate no sound? See My Use Case below for background. I tried removing all parts and effects in a preset but ALV won’t let me save it. So I’d like the know what I can do to keep the CPU/memory consumption from ALV at its strict minimum.

Right now, in my “blanked preset”, I have Part 1 disabled, no Part 2, Effects A/B set to None and Delay/Reverb are disabled. Is this the most idle state? Should I minimize Part 1 even more by choosing a lighter instrument?

My Use Case
I use Analog Lab V (Standalone) with a MIDI controller with built-in sounds. So I want to control software & hardware instruments at the same time from that single controller.

But there are many songs that I play where I don’t need to include software instruments so I’d like ALV to remain idle (with a “blank preset”) and keep switching on MIDI program changes.

Hi @EricP ,

Presets in Analog Lab come form different instruments. They don’t have the same CPU usage.

I suggest you in Analog Lab

  • browse the Instrument Piano and select the Default preset for that.
  • Then Go to EDIT PRESET in and disable all effects in use.
  • Then In Analog Labs main menu at the top left select “SAVE PRESET AS” and save the preset as a Analog Lab preset. You can for example name the preset AL Default.
I think this will ad up to the preset that have the least CPU usage. It’s not a Multi preset.

FYI: Factory presets can’t be overwritten so you can’t just use SAVE. SAVE AS create a new preset.

Additional Info: Also keep in mind, that when you save, then you will save a preset for the instrument it come from If that preset is edited with Analog Lab parameters, then the preset will be save as a Analog Lab preset. Parts in a Multi can be saved separately in the original instrument format.

@LBH - Perfect! Exactly the kind of answer I was hoping for. I did notice that Piano seemed to be lighter via quick preset browsing & system monitoring.

Thanks so much once again!
