There’s a software problem where the “Arturia Program” mode is a bit hit and miss in Reaper.
We Reaperians need to disable all KL61 Midi outs to have any recognition of the Arturia VSTi in the screen (although faders/knobs work, we cannot see for which parameter, or instrument)
Activating the screen connection to an Arturia VSTi require removal and re-adding to a track (in the first instance)
Switching Reaper tracks between two or more Arturia VSTis confuses the KL 61mk3 completely and often the screen freezes with the last working VSTi
I hope developers will note this and address. Reaper is, after all, the DAW of choice for the intellectual software dev
Thanks anyway for a delightful instrument in so many other ways!
Also noticed in Arturia Mode Program on my Mk3 Keylab Essential when midi mapping the knobs to Kontakt 8 player in Reaper for some reason - when I get to knob 7 from the LHS to R, Kontakt as a Fx plugin crashes and takes the track down with it.
Not an issue under DAW’s Program though but if switching between Analog Lab and Kontakt then one just has to keep up with the program button change as one goes. I also found that Midi channel assignment has no effect with Midi Mapped Actions in Reaper so if I assign know 1 on midi channel 7 to adjust track balance in Actions - it adjusts balance of Track 1 across all midi channels.
Work around for me, luckily when using Kontakt, is to map the last knob on the RHS to Selected Track Balance and then just use the drum pads to select tracks and that knob for the balance adjustment leaving the other 8 for use within Kontakt.
OK so here’s what I’ve found about multiple Arturia plugins across multiple Reaper tracks and how to switch the focus of the keylab
1 - the keylab’s search, back button and the rotary encoder only control a plug-in if its track is armed for recording (and midi in is allowed from the keylab)
2 - with multiple instances of arturia plug-ins, the keylab will connect to the first inserted and display its patches on the keylab screen. This connection will persist until it is “cut” or deleted.
3 - however, you can switch the keylabs focus using this method:
- “cut” the plugin that has the keylab’s focus currently (you can paste it back at the end). The keylab screen will now display the empty “Arturia Program OPen an Arturia plugin” message. This demonstrates that the focus has been lost.
- in the target plugin’s arturia settings/midi/midi controller: switch to generic, then back to KeyLab mk3. You should see the target plugin appear in the keylab screen.
- now paste your original plugin from step 1 back to its original position
It would be cool if Arturia devs could find a way to switch the keylab’s focus depending on which track was armed in reaper.
Incidentally, I’m using DAW protocol MCU and have disabled keylab mk3 DAW midi in and midi out in Reaper.
If I enable KL midi outs then the connection cannot be broken by cutting and pasteing. However once established, switching between instances of an arturia VSTi works more readily.
