Polybrute out of tune (untuned)

(0:21 shows it at the best)

If someone knows what I am doing wrong, please help. I tried to reset the Polybrute 12, tried auto-tuning and calibration, but no success so far. Thank you. Peter

The sound is almost inaudible in the video, but I can hear the dissonance at the end.

I assume the PB12 was warmed up when you ran the tuning and that you’re auditioning it with a fresh Init patch (other sounds could have some Analog Accuracy or other voice dispersion dialed in). I’d try running the auto tuning a few more times.

By the way: If the PolyBrute is warm (at least 20 minutes turned on), what is a decent tuning that can be achieved using the built-in auto tuning.

My PolyBrute 12 currently is from -1 to +1 cent off in the middle C over all 12 voices. Two octaves down, the voices are more off (around -2 to +2 cent) but I guess that this is by design because detuning is a lot more unpleasant on higher notes.

I have always asked myself if these values are a good tuning for an analog synth?

An average of 1 cent deviation in the middle range doesn’t sound bad for a VCO poly. The two oscillators in each voice will also have slightly different tracking.

I guess we all have different tolerance for deviations in tuning. Hopefully you got it pulled in a little tighter than what we hear towards the end of the video(?) An analogue VCO poly will always have tiny imprecisions which is part of what makes them so alive and appreciated.

Have you tried a linear (mild) setting for the VCOs ?

Settings > 1.4.8.2
(1.Synth Voice > 4.Voicing > 8.Analog Accuracy : 2.Pitch Mild (Linear))

On my Polybrute (6) this settings provides me with a tighter tuning than Pitch : Off.

Hey guys, before I can check out your (newer) replies, I did the VCO Calibration yesterday, powered off the Polybrute, restarted it today and please listen yourself:

WTH?

PS: did again a VCO tuning and the extreme untuning is gone.

Thank you for the tip, it’s already off.
