Update should improve the Envelope engine to address the clicking problem from the Amp envelope
It’s still not possible to get a clean sine wave sound without clicking. I think it’s the release stage.
No matter wich engine. Set to sine wave. It’s only when set to monophonic. It’s not when polyphonic.
No matter where the envelope attack and release is set, there are always clicks when playing notes with the keyboard.
Its not in Phase Plant or Serum.
So its unusable for Subbass duties.
Hi @Florian ,
I will not here comment anything about Pigments clicks less than before. I have no idea at the moment.
All synth clicks more or less under certain conditions. Simply when the gate open and close fast.
I tried Serum 2 long ago, when someone claimed it did’nt click. I found out it clicked very loud. So unless that has been fixed it still does. I will be very surprised if Phaseplant do not click. I found this: https://www.reddit.com/r/phaseplant/comments/uwj30h/clicking_noise_on_triggers/
Unless that have been fixed it still clicks.
May i ask what the settings are for your AMP ENV Attack and Release parameters? At which settings do you think the click is gone?
What if you in Mono Play Mode set the Attack and Decay to zero, the Sustain to max and the Release time to 30 ms.
Since A sine Wave is pure and you mention Subbass, then add a Surgeon 36 db filter and set the Cutoff so it cut off the clicks to your taste. Perhaps somewhere around 2000 Hz to around 1000 Hz.
Then do not play legato style. Meaning do not play a new note without the previous is Released. (Perhaps Arturia can have a look more at the Release click. I’m not sure anything can be done. )
You should not get any Clicks at all then.
Using Legato Play Mode can also help sometimes depending on the envelope shaping.
EDIT: Just setting the Attack to 0.5 ms helps. That’s without using a filter. It’s really not that long attack and release times. EDIT END
Any time you go from silence to sound quickly, you get momentary high frequency components added to the signal and those sound like clicks. To eliminate them, either bring the filter cutoff down or set the attack to be at least 1/2 the period of the lowest note. For example, if the lowest note is G1 (~49Hz) set the attack to 1/2 * 1/49 = 10.2ms.
Smaller attack values will work but you will still have some high frequency components present (its just physics). Following this formula pretty much eliminates all audible components. In practice, you can normally get by with much less because it is less noticeable with waveforms with high frequency components, at least partially removed with filters, and/or masked by effects.
Hey,
I just tried it in Pigments 7 and there is no click once you get to 10-15ms on the release.
Setting the attack just above 0 can help too. But at 0 it’s ok also.
If you click on the 3 lines menu on the left and click on ‘New Preset’ and change it to a sine, the envelope is set around what I tested above and there is no clicking.
As for Serum 2 - I just did the same test and there is more clicking on the attack than there is in Pigments. And the release is the same - 10-15ms.
When you make a new preset in pigments it’s set to polyphonic by default. No clicks. If you set it to monophonic clicks back
What environment are you running? I get no clicks when attack/release are at least 1/2 * 1/freq ( 10-15ms for most lower notes) while in monophonic mode. This is on an M4 Mac Mini. Maybe it is a problem with your computer or sound device.
