Here is an improvisation I did using one of my own patches. Just one patch, mastered and that’s it.
Nice ambiant piece with a focus on textures evoking crying waves in the ocean.
Funny you should draw that analogy. I was thinking how the track “The Experience of Swimming” by Japan came to mind for me.
Water…
I know Japan but I didn’t know “The Experience of Swimming”.
It has a similar wavelike impression. Ambient impressionism, maybe.
To me your piece has also a crying, lamenting aspect in the waves.
funtmaster,
Music is purely subjective. Depending on my mood, I generally like music that is more complex. Even though I listened at fairly low volume, I was getting occasional unpleasant crackling noises, and I am listening on pretty good headphones. Maybe your computer needs more memory (not storage). Or maybe you recorded at too high of a level, exceeding 0 dB. Maybe a bit too much occasional resonance; that’s where it happens. Otherwise, it was pleasant and relaxing; might be good for background music for a video, or a TV or movie scene. Now listening to that Japan song; I understand why you draw the comparison.
Thanks for listening.
Yes - there was a little audio shenanigans going on. It was an improv so I kept true to its origins. However, after posting it I started experimenting with my audio setting and found a better configuration. RAM is not an issue. I use a 24Gb Mac Mini M4, so most of the time it hardly breaks a sweat. Levels were around -3dB occasionally peaking at 0. I also filtered out some boomy lower frequencies, which helped a lot. There is some high frequency aliasing or ringing going on in the Pigments patch I created. I think thats down to it being sample based with some complex, resonant filtering going on. There’s not much I can do about that without changing the character of the patch - and I dont want to do that.
As Voltaire said::
“Perfect is the enemy of the good”
I can live with these minor imperfections. Much like people, they are what makes us what we are and a the world a more interesting place.
