Pigments-6 - Envelope Follower questions

When I set Combinate to ENV FOLLOWER, and Source to engine 1, it acts like a gate rather than following the output of engine 1. In other words, when the level of engine 1 changes, the Combinate input level doesn’t change. The initial level, set by Combinate>Input Gain, remains constant.

I thought that when keyboard velocity or aftertouch modulate engine 1 output volume, the envelope follower should respond. I can use keyboard attack to modulate Env Follower>Input Gain, but it’s not following the envelope of Engine 1 – it’s following the keyboard gate.

Perhaps I’m misunderstanding how ENV FOLLOWER is supposed to work. It’s not described yet in the user manual, so I’m hoping someone can explain it in detail here on the forum.

Thanks.

Hi @Ashtangakasha. Welcome back.

It can be confusing.

When the Envelope Followers Source is set to an Engine, then it’s not about the main output of the ENGINE. It’s about the outputs of the individual OSC’s etc. in the ENGINE.

When the Envelope Followers Source is set to Utility, then it’s also not the Volume output that have an impact.

When the Envelope Followers Source is set to a Filter, then the Engines Main output will have and impact. Also the Filter settings will have an impact, but NOT the Filters Volume setting.

You should be able modulate parameters that does have an impact, and thus the modulation will have an impact too.

This is what i as a user have observed.

It would be nice to have an option to be able to use the final output from Filters 1, 2 and both as Source for the Envelope Follower.

I hope this helps.
