Original Audiofuse + X8 Out - will it work for a 5.1 set-up?

I had a idea for a 5.1 set-up on the cheap - would love to know thoughts on if it would work?

I have an original Audiofuse - if I buy an X8 Out and connect to it via the Audiofuse ADAT out, could I send the various outputs to the 3 (+sub) powered speakers that would be attached to the X8 out (I already have a stereo pair attached to the Audiofuse speaker output).

If possible, how would I choose the outputs from within the software (do the 8 (individual) ADAT channels show up as outs in the DAW?). Does the control center app show the 8 ADAT outs?

I did that with the AF Studio+8pre by ADAT. Enough outputs for 7.1.4. I use Dirac Live for room correction, speaker calibration and monitor control.

Connected the following way:

LR to main output. Allows volume knob to be used for stereo

C + Sub to Aux output. Source: DAW (seen as AUX in Dirac Live)

Surround speakers to ADAT 1-4. Source: USB (seen as ADAT 1-4 in Dirac)

Height speakers to ADAT 5-8. Source: USB (seen as ADAT 5-8 in Dirac)

Got used 8pre for this. Also gave me another 8 mic pres.

Interesting - curious about your routing from your DAW (I understand Dirac is mostly used for consumer Atmos set-up?) - So does your DAW (what DAW?) output to the Dirac software (Windows?) and then that software outputs to the Audiofuse hardware?

In my case I would most likely be playing back an ADM BWF file in Dolby Atmos Renderer (i.e. checking my mix) and needing to send it out to the relevant speaker outputs…in my case 5.1

Dirac Live RCS (room correction suite) is their solution for running straight on Mac/PC. It is like Sonarworks or ARC. However, Dirac is much better than those since it corrects both phase and amplitude. Dirac also aligns speakers in level and delay in a multi-channel setup. I am running a Mac. So DAW/Apple Music outputs to Dirac and Dirac outputs to Audiofuse Studio.

You can run Dirac as plugin in your DAW or System wide. I do the latter, since at the moment I am only running 5.0.

The system wide processor can handle up to 8 channels. So beyond 7.1 or 5.1.2 you have to use the plugin. My plan for 7.1.4 is to reroute Apple music Atmos through Blackhole to Logic and then run the Dirac Plugin in Logic outputting to Audiofuse Studio. For mixing and mastering, I would do the same omitting Blackhole since it wouldn’t be needed.

Just like you I am slowly getting into Atmos mixing. My first step is 5.0. My LCR extends down to 26Hz, so not using a sub in step 1.
