I am still busy reworking my patch collections. It’s hard work, so I took a break today and created this little improvisation using 3 of my Pigments patches. It was completely unplanned and unrehearsed (we can hear that you say). To me it has a far Eastern feel with a dash of gipsy violin. Time to get back to those patches…
Interesting sound/sample there, kind of sounds like a Shakuhachi type sound made from a human voice.
I’d maybe calm the panning down a little, maybe make it less frequent and closer to the mid, just my own tastes, though.
The simplistic synth sound underneath DOES support it rather nicely without distracting from it, i had to listen a couple of times as my ear was so drawn to the ‘breathy’ sound, which i think is ideal for this track.
HTH!
I try taming the panning - it may focus the track a little more.
I don’t think it really needs it, the sound and its part are interesting enough as they are without it. Maybe pan the main sound to one side a touch and the other sound the same, but opposite when it arrives.
I did find it distracted me a little.
I also think, with the piece being so minimalist, in terms of sounds, that it’s overall dynamic is just fine without the panning. Maybe just the slightest touch of delay on the other synth would work nicely, though.
Again, just my own, personal opinion FWIW.
This would make a great alternative introduction to The Colony of Slippermen by Genesis.
I played with the stereo image placement, lessened the panning of the main instrument and added a little delay to another track. It shounds better ![]()
Although I like their later works (esp “And then there were three”), I have never heard this til today. I see what you mean.
And Then There Were Three….memories of Knebworth Festival in 1978. My first festival experience and second Genesis show. Happy days ![]()
Just listening to the new version now, yes, MUCH better i think!
It’s MUCH easier to listen to now and i’m hearing the whole thing as i’m not being distracted by the panning.

Very interesting, to me it shouldn’t work, but it does.
I liked it and i cant wait for the updated patches…
