Morphee Midi External Control

It seems polybrute 12 isn’t responding to any of the MIDI CCs comings that relate to Morphee (114,115,89).

Setup:

  • Morphee select set to Morph
  • Tec Breath control to MRCC to polybrute midi DIN
  • No USB connected to Polybrute
  • Can use same controller to control things like exp 2, wheel, etc and most other CCs I have tried, but these seem ignored.

Note: I can set my controller to send Exp 1 (CC 11), then in the Expression settings for Exp 1 point that to one of those morphee axis, and that works. But direct to Morphee CC doesn’t seem to work.

Note 2: Seems also the ribbon doesn’t respond directly to CC either (CC 9)

Hello!

The Morphee CCs (X/Y/Z = CC 114, 115, 89) and the Ribbon CC (9) are transmitted by the PolyBrute, but at the moment they do not get interpreted when you send those CCs back in.
That’s why you can control other things (Exp1, Exp2, mod wheel etc.) just fine, but Morphee + ribbon “direct CC” feel dead.

So your workaround is actually the right approach for now:

  1. Have your controller send a CC the PolyBrute does respond to (e.g. Exp 1 = CC 11, or Exp 2 = CC 4, or Mod Wheel = CC 1).
  2. In the PolyBrute’s Expression / Mod Matrix settings, route that source (Exp1/Exp2/etc.) to the same destinations you were hoping to reach with Morphee or the ribbon.

Unfortunately there isn’t currently a way to “fake” Morphee X/Y/Z or the ribbon by sending CC 114/115/89/9 directly to the synth – those CCs are output-only right now, even though they’re documented in the MIDI chart.

If you want to double-check settings anyway:

Make sure Settings → MIDI → Enable CC on Knobs is set to ON , and
Confirm their controller is sending on the same MIDI channel as Settings → MIDI → Input Channel.

Firmware 2.0 added CC output for Morphee X/Y/Z and the ribbon, and the release notes originally implied both send and receive – but Arturia later clarified that the ribbon is actually send-only, and users on the forum confirmed that playback of recorded Morphee/ribbon CC back into the PolyBrute doesn’t move those controllers.

The PolyBrute 12 manual uses the phrase “almost everything you can touch sends and responds to MIDI,” and Morphee/Ribbon are the main exceptions.

Thank you for clarifying this!

those CCs are output-only right now,

I’m wondering if you might be able to give any insight into the chances of this changing in the future? For example:

  1. Hardware doesn’t have the connections, so never. If this is the case, maybe update manual?
  2. It could be enabled, but a lot of testing and QA and possible follow work so issue of priority.
  3. Could be enabled but, then there are other firmware design issues that arise that that are not clear on how to solve “One does not simply enable these CCs…” " .
