Apologies, did a search in the forums for this and can’t find anything. Does anyone have a link to instructions/tutorial for using the control input for a pedal. In particular, can I use a looping pedal to stop/start loops?
I’ve tried the user manual but, on this topic, it’s pretty unhelpful. It mentions that “1/4-inch TRS input accepts sustain, switch, or expression/continuous control pedal” - but then for some reason doesn’t have a section on actually how to do it.
If the manual say this, then you can use the control input to send out all those midi CC messages through the USB and MIDI output.
So you can control anything that can be controlled by midi CC. The rest is about how the target work using midi CC.
Don’t you know about what midi CC is?
What do you mean? If you have a looping pedal, then why do you need to use the Minilab 3? Start and stop loops where?
If you have a control pedal you will use for looping whatever that will mean in this context, then it’s possible, if the target have some kind of loop function, that can be controlled by midi CC messages. Please consult the targets manual about how to do that.
Yes you should learn something about midi CC. It’s control messages used betwen midi equiptment.
I think Minilab also can send NRPN messages, that some equiptment also can use.
OK - so I’m still really struggling with this! Basically - I have a minilab 3 and Minifuse. At the minute, I’ve got my guitar and mic plugged directly into the Minifuse.
Everything works as it should, but the main thing I’m struggling with is the start/stop recording buttons for tracks that require a finger-press. It’s SO much easier with a foot-tap - that way I can sustain on the keyboard right through the measure, or at faster Tempo, time it super accurately without my hand having to journey from the guitar to the keypad.
I guess my question is: Can I, effectively, in Ableton, just use the minilab 3 as a looper for keyboard/drumpad and then use a looper pedal to actually control the looping for tracks as well?
Is it simply a case of plugging the guitar and mic into an RC50 or something, then plugging the RC50 into the minifuse, and adding an additional control surface in the Settings?
I’ve looked everywhere for a setup like this and it’s totally not clear. (I am a bit of a newbie to this, so apologies if it’s a silly question).
But if it have a output that work as a Switch, then you can connect it to your Minilab 3 control input. Then you can use this to send a midi CC to Ableton Live. In Live you then assign it to a parameter. Consult the Midi Control Center manual about how to set midi CC for the input, in case you need it.
If your RC50 have a midi connection, and you have a Minifuse 2 or 4 with midi connections, then you can connect to that. But what you can do with it depend your RC50. If you can send midi CC, then you should be able to assign them to parameters in Ableton Live. In this case please consult your Minifuse manual about “Configuring MIDI in Ableton Live”.
Ableton Live have Midi learn to do midi CC assignments. I think it have a Midi learn button at the top right of the application. But i don’t use Live. I suggest you ask in Ableton forum about Live, if you nee further info than i give.
Also you can search the web on how to midi learn in Ableton Live. Perhaps this video from Ableton helps:
I did a search and stumpled on the following video. That might give you some additional inspiration and ideas:
