Minifuse 2 heat/working Temperature?

Hello,
I have a question regarding the Minifuse 2 audio interface. Is it normal for the device to generate heat during operating? If so, what is the typical operating temperature range I should expect?

I didn’t expect the small, USB-powered audio interface would get warm; the outer casing feels around 34 degrees Celsius. While I haven’t taken an exact measurement yet, the warm feel was unexpected for me.

I’ve searched online and forum, but I couldn’t find any useful information on this topic. Any insights you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I don’t know how normal temperature range of the Minifuse case, but my Minifuse 1 have 27 C to USB 2.0, and 28 C to USB 3.2 ports with original cable.

I’m afraid to use it on USB 3 and Type C ports.

I recommend that everyone use USB 2.0 to avoid overheating.

HI @Kovarniy and welcome to The Sound Explorers Forum!

@Sh1kuren those temps don’t sound too unreasonable, your computer’s CPU will be MUCH hotter than that. mic pre amps tend to get quite warm when in use too, so it’s imperative that these sorts of devices have at least adequate air-flow around them for cooling.
I have seen MANY videos of people using smaller, non rack mounted interfaces with them being placed on cushions, blankets and other soft surfaces, which not only block some or all of the venting ports on the devices, they also act as insulators compounding the issue. I’m sure i’ve seen at least one or two ads for various companies using this scenario too.

You MUST ensure your unit/s have decent airflow around them, don’t keep them in direct sunlight etc as they WILL produce heat when in use.

This is referenced in The Manual
P 5/43
6. Do not place heavy objects on the device. Do not block openings or vents of the
device; these locations are used for air circulation to prevent the device from
overheating. Do not place the device near a heat vent at any location with poor
air circulation.

You might want to check with Arturia Support to see if they can advise on operating temps.

Don’t worry, it’s okay. :slightly_smiling_face:

I was just wondering why USB 3 gets more heat on any device.

I looked in the manual and found USB 2 Audio Compatibility, but nothing about USB 3/Type C connection.

Is it unsafe or because USB 2.0 is more stable?

Hi @Sh1kuren

It states in The Manual that it’s a USB2 device but USB C compatible too.
USB3 is backward compatible, so it can also be used for USB1/2 as well.
USB3 devices that are bus powered often pull more current than a USB1/2 device, which will account for that. My own interface, which is USB3 but mains powered and rack mounted, is currently running at a temp of around 33-35 Deg C and will run warmer when being used heavily, it has 4 mic preamps in it so can get pretty toasty when they’re all being used.
The manufacturer does state safe working temps in the manual for mine and they’re over 50 Deg C, so i should be WELL within safety limits.

See how much cooler your unit runs on USB3 power when the mic pre isn’t in use, it should be a bit cooler then.

HTH!
