Hi all,
A few days ago I’ve posted a topic asking about a problem with the analog filter with max resonance going through the onboard classic distortion.
Turns out those weird artifacts are not because of the filter itself, but rather the distortion fx. I’ve tried applying that filter sweep with max resonance through the fx aid distortion, or some plugin distortions and got very similar results. There are some distortion plugins though that don’t create those weird artifacts when you sweep a full resonant filter. And with analog distortion it doesn’t happen at all, such as the mini drive from make noise engineering. That makes me believe that those distortion fx within Minifreak are not fully developed or have yet some issues to be fixed, since other distortion applications don’t create these weird noises. Do you know if they can fix it noises with a firmware update?
Does this only happen with Distortion enabled? I can’t reproduce it on my unit.
It does sound more like a defect cutoff pot. I’ve had similar behaviour on my MicroKorg as well as on my Moog Sub 37, and in both cases the solution was to replace the pot.
Yes, only when distortion is enabled.
Ah wait, I just checked again. And, I do hear it, too.
I’d speculate it’s aliasing noise from the very high frequency content the filter resonance adds to the tone, that the digital effects can’t handle.
Yes I thought that too, but then how is it possible that the hardware does it and the software doesn’t? They both sport digital fx. And it’s quite strange regarding the software too, because under the same settings, sometimes that noise happens and others it doesn’t…quite puzzled
Because the software doesn’t involve any A/D converters? I’m not sure, just speculating.
