I feel I’m doing something simple wrong here but can’t work out what, so I’d appreciate any tips.
In the B3 V2 standalone VST, I’ve assigned the Rotary Speaker to CC14 and. when I play in B3 V2 that works fine.
However, when I load the preset I’ve saved into Analog Lab Pro, there’ s no mapping for CC14 and the Rotary Speaker doesn’t seem to be available in the ‘Add Control’ list (the FXA and FXB versions seem available, but I’m already using FX on the preset).
I tried to export the midi config but the file formats seem different (.b3xmidi versus .labmidi) and when I play in Analog Lab Pro it seems I’m unable to use the Rotary Speaker.
Is there a simple mistake I’m making here, or is it genuinely not possible to assign the same MIDI mappings in the standalone apps within ALP?
You should be able to use certain midi CC’s. For example midi CC 66 and 67 that’s used for some pedals in for example Piano V. Those midi CC’s are in general midi defined for the Sostenuto and Soft pedals. Perhaps also midi CC 2 that in general midi is defined for Breath Control will work. Perhaps other midi CC’s that in general midi CC is defined for a hardware control will work. I have’nt tried all. I can’t remember if Arturia have midi CC2 as a reserved parameter in any applications.
I can use midi CC 66 and 67. But for example keep in mind that when used with Piano V, then the above mentioned Piano V pedals will be affected too. Midi mapping require some thinking and planning.
Once i tried to assign aftertouch to control the rotor. It did actually assign as the in a midi chart “none existent” midi CC 128. And it work!
Be sure to choose and select the midi config in B3 V that you want to use as your DEFAULT midi config. Then this midi config will be used when you open Analog Lab.
NOTE that you might need to open the instrument/ B3 V inside Analog Lab before it work. But perhaps you don’t have to. You can close it when it work.
I suggest you try the above. I hope it will work out for you.
I can’t tell if or how this perhaps can affect other things for you.
BTW: The parameters that you can map in Analog Lab belong to Analog Lab and not to the instruments. That’s why you can’t find B3 V’s rotor there.
It would be helpful, if Arturia had a list with all reserved midi CC’s used in all their applications. Each instrument do have some info, but they does’nt cover all and is’nt the total reserved midi CC’s of all instruments.
Info:
DX7 V have midi CC 02 reserved for Breath Control, so that should work too.
Midi CC 11 Expression should also work as it is reserved in many instruments. Expression should in my opinion be a reserved midi CC modulator in all instruments.
Midi CC 11 Expression is from the factory mapped for the Swell pedal.
Just some additional info.
I forgot, that you can assign parameters for your Controls in Analog Lab. If you click a parameter name for a knob or a fader in Analog Lab Control panel, then select ASSIGN in the menu that appear, then the instrument open for you to assign a parameter (for those who own the full instrument only, i assume.) . But this is at the expense at loosing control over the previous parameter in the selected midi Config.
