Ok this is probably super niche, but I found it startling and thought I’d share to see what’s going on.
I had been playing around with a blank preset that I just slapped some Karplus delay and plate reverb on (in insert mode), and I was hitting power chords composed of notes that cause the delay to resonate. This was fine and the synth was producing nice warm tones, but as I continued it abruptly got super loud as if it was clipping. I quickly turned the headphone volume all the way down, but even then the awful clipping noise was audible through the headphones.
Is my PB defective, or does this happen for y’all too? Do I just need to be careful when dealing with karplus and plate reverb? Why does this happen?
Did you put the delay feedback close to maximum ?
Like @Michael_G says, you need to be careful with the feedback (Regeneration knob) on the delay.
At the max position, the Regeneration is so strong that the sound will build up for each repeat until it “blows up” into a distorted cacaphony. The Regeneration could have been limited so that this never happens, but that would take away the ability to play around with this phenomenon.
Traditionally, all delays allow the feedback to be so strong that they can blow up. This is often used in live performance to build huge dramatic crescendos, with the perfomer “riding” the feedback knob to control it.
So your PolyBrute is fine, just choose a Regeneration setting that isn’t too high for your desired effect
