Keystep Pro Factory Reset Bug

I bought my Keystep Pro from Guitar Center in 2/23/2021. A few months ago it factory reset on startup and I completely lost three years of work plus all settings. The same thing happened again last week. Luckily I had saved everything in the MIDI Control Center, but it’s a pain in my back to do every time I’m done working with my KSP since I’m dawless and have to break out an old Win 10 laptop just to plug in the usb for this process. Has anyone else experienced their KSP randomly bugging out and auto factory resetting on startup? I haven’t changed the original power supply or done anything unusual with my KSP settings since I bought it, so this seems like it might be some kind of internal hardware/pcb issue.

This happened to my KSP as well.

I just switched out the power supply that my KSP came with to a USB power bank connection since the PSU may have been slightly under powering at times causing the random malfunctions. I’ll report back if the issue occurs again with this new USB power test.

Hi TzvaArbe,

Sorry to hear about this.

Please report back when you can.

Our technical team will be the best people to discuss any malfunctions with:

It’s booting up faster plugged in via usb, which is a good sign.

At least once in a year I need to do a factory reset for mine to behave normal again.
It usually starts with random freezing while working on a project when using “scenes” - then it locks completely up when it tries to load the project - I can then copy the now “buggy” project in the MCC to another project slot and that will load fine and I’m able to continue to work on it.
This issue has now been happening a couple of times during the last weeks (and it happened last year also) so I kinda expect it is time for a factory reset in near future…

And so today when I powered it up, it had completely lost the ability start/sync to midi clock coming out from Ableton Live - via USB at least. I didn’t bother testing with midi DIN cables.
Sending Midi clock from the KSP into live worked just fine so uhmmm… factory reset is now done and it syncs and starts to incoming midi clock again.

Now you could waste your time with “discussing” with their support as Joe suggests - My experience is that they will happily reproduce a well explained bug, even acknowledge it and promise a fix that will never see the light of day.

I guarantee you this - Arturia does not give a f*** and will never dedicate the needed time for a developer to fix their consumer product. The “Pro” is just a joke

Thanks for the thorough info. And yes… I’ve heard about Arturia’s poor to non existent customer service. I’ll be looking into other keyboard controllers since I prefer playing keys opposed to pressing buttons.
