Hello everyone,
I am a complete beginner when it comes to using MIDI keyboards. I purchased the Keystep 37 to control Ableton Live 12 (Lite), but I’m having trouble getting it to work properly.
I can generate sounds by pressing the keys with a selected (MIDI) instrument.
However, most of the other buttons don’t work or only sometimes, or seem to work randomly for me.
It also seems that there is no “Keystep 37” preset in Ableton, so the other buttons/knobs are not automatically recognized correctly.
Can someone help me with this or know where I can read about it? I have already searched the manual (Keystep) and Ableton forums.
Hi @WayneInt and welcome to The Sound Explorers Forum!
The KS37 is a great little controller, i have one here, along with a few other controllers and it’s superb for throwing ideas down, i use the ‘strum’ function A LOT if i’m using certain software instruments too.
I’m not an Ableton user, i know there ARE some who frequent here though, but it sounds very much like it would be worth you having a really good read through The Manual and keeping it close by until you are more familiar with its functions.
Also, a quick search on YouTube throws these results up, so there’s plenty there to get you up and running at your own pace.
Hey @matjones,
thank you very much for your quick response.
The Video you found is awsome, I’ll test all the shown features as soon as I am back at my computer.
Hi!
If you want to have the knobs automatically control Live devices (“blue hand” function), you’ll have to create a UserConfiguration.txt file which is also known as ‘instant mappings’ in Ableton.
I think you can follow this tutorial and adapt it to your Keystep.
