I want to use the 4 dials on the panel next to the chord button to control parameters in VST plugins in FL Studio via FL Studio’s link to controller function. But when I do last tweaked > link to controller and then move the dials nothing happens, it’s like FL Studio isn’t recognising that I’m turning the dial. Instead it just operates the Keystep’s internal functions. How do I turn those off so I can use them to control plugins in my DAW? I can’t find anything in the manual about it.
HI @Synth
It’s been a while since i’ve used my KS37, but from memory, if you hold down ‘shift’ and then press the ‘chord’ button (you’ll see 'CC Bank underneath, again from memory here) it will go into CC Mode.
IIRC there are 4 banks of CC’s which, can be re/assigned in The Arturia Midi Control Centre…
Yep, i just dragged mine out and that seems to be the correct procedure.
If you want to change/cycle through the four banks, hold down shift and press ‘chord’ again.
HTH!
Thanks Mat, that solves one problem! Although only b1 seems to be available.
Unfortunately I have another problem. If I press play on the Keystep transport control, it will start the daw playing like it should, but it also engages the arp/sequencer and I can’t play my VSTs properly because the Keystep thinks I want to use the arp/sequencer. Is there a way to disable that? I just want to use it as a normal MIDI controller for my VSTs.
HI again @Synth
Just double checked the CC thing on mine again, try either of these…
Either Hold the ‘shift’ button and press ‘Chord’ and you’ll see ‘b1’ appear on the screen, keep ‘hold’ pressed down and hit ‘Chord’ again and you should see ‘b2’, ‘b3’, ‘b4’ subsequently.
Alternatively, just hit ‘hold’ and ‘chord’ each time you wish to change CC Bank.
Both of those ways work on my own controller.
Again, from memory here, i’m not sure your second issue is possible as i’ve never actually used it as a transport control.
HTH!
Alright thanks man. I’m really bummed about this. It’s such a nice quality hardware but it doesn’t seem appropriate for use as a DAW controller. Sending it back today.
NP, to be fair though, it’s not really made as or advertised as a DAW controller, rather as a way to control VSTIs/CV & Gate based synths etc.
You’ll likely have to budget a fair bit more to get the same kind of quality, but with those extra features.
One thing springs to mind though, you could try deleting one of the sequences from its memory so it doesn’t send any midi note data etc when selected?
HTH!
