Keylab Essential 49 MK3 refuses to work in Cubase 14

Windows 11 23H2
Cubase 14
Keylab Essential 49 MK3

Hi all.

I have a Keylab Essential 49 MK3 and no matter what I do it will not work in Cubase 14.
My MiniLab MKII also will not work in Cubase 14

Both keyboards work just fine in Cubase 12, Pro Tools 2024 and Ableton Live 12.
I have the latest firmware in both keyboards.

The Keylab is in DAW mode Prog + Pad 2.
The MiniLab is in DAW Mode Shift + Pad 2.
In Arturia MIDI center I have the Keylabs DAW Mode set to HUI.

Acording to Artrurias over simplistic, and very unhelpful, youtube video, the girl in the video states, you just plug it in,and when you open Cubase it is reconised with all its features mapped.

Nothing could be further from the truth, it might work for some but not for all.

It is worth noting that both keyboards are sending MIDI data which Cubase indicates in the activity monitor in its bottom right hand side.

When I open Cubase 14, in the lower MIDI control window it states "No MIDI controller connected.

This is wrong as both my Keylab and Minilab are plugged in and show in Cubases Studio Setup > MID Port Setup.

In cubase 14, If I go to Studio > Studio Setup > MIDI Port Setup
Both the Keylab and Minilab are listed with ticks in the Visable and All MIDI Inputs for each.

But, In the panel Studio Setup > MIDI Remote there are no MIDI remote controllers available.
Cubase is not reconising either Keyboard and showing the MIDI controller scripts for either.

However, If I click on Open MIDI Remote Manager there are no midi remotes listed, nothing.

If I open the lower MIDI Remote window and click Add new MIDI Controller Surface.
Select Arturia > KeyLab Essential 49 MK3 this appears to load the script and places the KeyLab image in the right hand box.

I then click on MIDI port IN to set that up and I am presented with 4 options.

I have no clue which is the right one but I have tried all 4 and none work.
The Activate MIDI Controller Surface button does light up by clicking on it does nothing

Even though I manually set the MIDI remote control to Keylab in the lower window, the Studio Setuo MIDI remote manager panel still shows none available.

The same process and outcome goes for the MiniLab MkII.

If I open Analog Lab Pro as a stand alone.
The audio settings are correct as I get a tone when I click on Test Audio > Play.
But, with the Keylab in Arturia mode Prog + Pad 1, and then select any one of the four available Keylab Essential MID ports, nothing works.

The same for the Minilab.

Interestingly, if I open IK Multimeda’s Pianoverse, the only other software instrument that I have as a standalone, the Keylab Essential 49 works without the need for any setup.
Okay none of the faders or rotorys do but I expect that is because it’s a non artuia product, but I am able to play it.

But the MiniLab, although listed in the Pianoverse Audi/Midi settings is unselectable.

It is really perverse that the Keylab works in a dfferent brands instrument but not in Arturias.

This does not suggest it is a computer issue and before moving on to a laptop for Cubase 14, I was having exactly the same issues with both keyboards running Cubase 13 on a PC but as I previously stated, both keyboards work perfectly in Cubase 12.

I am almost 100% certain that this is an Arturia problem.
Certainly the abject lack of setup tutorials or information is down to them.

I have tried changing which USB socket I use but there is not much choice on my laptop and it made no difference at all.

I have contacted tech support days ago last week on this issue but they have not replied which REALLY annoys me.

It is always Arturia Keyboards that causes me problems and part of me wants to take these keyboards to my local rubbish tip but I paid good money to Arturia for each and they should darn well work.

Like anyone, especially when music is how we make our living, to provide for our family, I need ease of use and rock solid reliability each day, every day without fail.

As an aside, I spent two hours this afternoon taking screen images at every stage to show to you guys n gals but the forum rejected them saying that a new user can only post two images.
I am not a new user, I was a long term member of the old forum and simply came over here when I discovered the old one is no longer in use.

I apoligise therefore for the lack of images.

Any suggestions will be very gratefully received and if I can provide further information then I will do what I can.

Many thanks in advance.

Ken.

Hi Ken,

Sorry to hear you’re having issues with this. Totally understand your frustration. I hope the support team can get to the bottom of it with you. It’s been a busy period for the support team recently, but I’m sure they will respond to you soon.

It sounds promising that the Cubase activity monitor is showing the controller input is working. I can only think it may be an issue with the audio routing out, if the controller is functioning in other DAWs. Could you share a screenshot of your MIDI Port Setup window in Cubase?

I don’t have a Keylab but use another Arturia controller with Cubase 13, so may be able to get close to your setup. I too don’t have anything listed in the MIDI Remote window for my controller, I think this is normal.

This sounds like a Cubase 14 problem, especially considering your Keylab is recognised by other DAWs and VSTs, including previous versions of Cubase. It seems to me you should maybe be rattling hard on Steinberg’s door not Arturia’s.
