I’ve checked the manual and can’t find anything so I’m checking here. Is it possible to import an mp3, wav, aiff etc audio file into Pigments 6? When I tried “import” the mp3 files were grayed out. Any thoughts?
Hi,
It’s possible to add a folder of your own samples if you navigate to the sample engine’s “Add Folder” button. There’s no drag-and-drop type of functionality currently though.
Do you know if there’s plans/awareness to add that functionality to the Utility->Noise engine sample browser too?
I’ll share the idea with the team for future consideration
Sorry, I think I replied to the wrong message, Here it is again: I put an audio file (.m4a, 1.5 MB) into a folder, went up to the top left menu (3 horizontal slashes) went to import, and clicked on the file. I get a window (attached below) that just sits there. It doesn’t seem to finish loading. What am I missing?
Next I went to Engine 1, Sample, then clicked on ‘add folder,’ navigated to the folder and clicked, but nothing happened.
That “Import…” selection is for Presets, not sound samples.
OK, what about the second try?
That is the way to add folders of sample files, but it may require certain file types in the folder (probably .wav).
I converted it to .wav, put it in the folder, then clicked add folder, highlighted the folder and clicked, but nothing happened.
I’m not sure what the problem would be then. I tried adding my Documents folder, and all .wav files in there and any sub-directories showed up as selectable.
In Pigments 6 manual Section “9.3.3. Importing samples” this info is available:
“Imported files may be in WAV or AIFF format, 16 or 24 bits, and at sample rates from 44.1kHz to 192kHz. The maximum sample duration is limited only by the amount of RAM in your computer.”
Are you doing like described in the manual from Section “9.3.3. Importing samples”?
We’re on the right track! The sample showed up in folder and it plays (weirdly) but the preset, Above Sheer Beauty plays also. How do I get rid of the preset?
The preset playing sounds like a separate problem. You either have that preset loaded and are changing one of the engines to be your new sample or you have that preset loaded in Pigments on another track that is also being triggered?
The first choice, I think. How do I turn it off?
You probably want to select New Preset from the main menu (three lines). Then set up ENGINE 1 to play your sample. Make sure ENGINE 2 and UTILITY ENGINE are turned off, unless/until you want use them as well.
Using my Windows 10 PC I was able to take a 17 second wav file, drop it into a Pigments sample folder, and select it for use in a preset. So that much can be done.
Great! I have the sample by itself now. This is quite an education. Thank you for sticking with me on this. Now, the sound file is a voice reading a poem, but all I’ve sampled is something that sounds like the chipmunks, and it lasts two seconds. Is there a way to get the full voice into the synth?
Play a lower note!
Oh that’s so cool! OK, one last question (I hope) I have the sample running at a normal rate, but it fades out halfway thru. How can I keep the volume steady?
