Hello group. When I try to play another synth with the PB12, when I play more than three note around middle C, the synth I’m controlling gets hung and the notes sustain.
The only thing changed in settings is the synths midi channel. Went through all the settings and can’t figure out this anomaly.
Factory reset no help.
Excuse my ignorance if it’s something simple.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, David
Hi @Pixie61 ,
do you have a little more context? How is the MIDI connection set up? Do you use USB or the MIDI ports? Is the PB connected to the other synth directly or is there a MIDI router or maybe even a DAW inbetween? Is the PolyBrute Connect plugin active?
Best regards,
Stephan
Hi Stephan,
Single midi cable. Out from PB12 directly to midi in of any synth.
Okay … and is the PB connected to a computer simultaneously via USB? With active PolyBrute Connect software? I ask for a reason because there could be side effects if the PolyBrute Connect software is active.
Stephan, Nothing else is connected. DIN midi between the two. Output channel set to any receiving synth. Factory reset. DIN or Both selected in settings makes no difference. I’m bewildered.
Single notes play no problem all up and down keyboard. Once three notes are depressed around middle C, the notes all drone.??? Thanks Stephan
Just wild guessing - do you have MPE enabled? Is the aftertouch mode set to poly or any of the Alt modes? Does local = off change something?
Thanks for the input Stephan.
MPE is not enabled.
Will try the poly suggestions and get back.
And maybe another thing to check because you mentioned the middle C: Could you check your timbrality settings, too? Timbrality should be set to single.
Hooray Stephan. Poly AT was the culprit.
Pity because I primarily want to use the Poly AT / MPE of the PB12 to control my 3rd Wave desktop. Good for now though. Thank you!
David
Awesome!
Ah … one additional thought: Have you tried Poly AT with or without MPE activated? Because, Poly AT can be used in conjunction with MPE activated (using all MIDI channels according to the MPE settings) or without (using poly pressure messages). That may have a different effect on the external synths.
I had the same exact problem… However, it only occurs with the MIDI DIN ports, and not over the Polybrute MIDI USB port.
I’m just guessing here, but I suspect the issue is that the Polybrute is not doing any rate limiting at all, and with poly AT (or MPE) it is just sending more data than the DIN spec can actually handle and the result is dropped events (like Note Off). These limits are not an issue for the USB.
Anyway, if you switch to channel AT, then effectively you are reducing the bit rate. It would be great if there was some control in the Polybrute settings to manage the data rate for CC messages, pitch bend, and AT (channel and poly).
