Keylab Mk 3 - been trying to set this ups for a while and having no success.
User 1 whole keyboard - User 2 split keyboard
Seems no matter what settings I try on the keyboard or in the MCC, it doesn’t “stick” and it continues to transmit on only one channel.
I have channel 1 set to the left split and channel 2 to the right (well at least that is what I am entering but when I choose either User 1 or 2 it always only transmits on one channel.
Possibly as these settings are only available in Global perhaps? I cannot find a way to set IN the actual User program separately to other User programs.
I don’t have a keylab controller. But as far as i can tell from the manuals, then the MK2 could split the controllers keyboard to output that settings. The MK3 can’t. The MK3 split is when used with Analog Lab only - i think. That will explain, you can’t set midi channels in MCC.
Am i wrong?
I do think it’s strange this has changed from MK2. Some of Arturias instruments like B3 V can recieve on multiple midi Channels at the same time - one for each manual.
No, the SPLIT mode works also in User mode (in Arturia Mode, it is actually Analog Lab managing the Split, in User mode, KeyLab is managing the Split)
However, currently, the Split /MIDI settings are Global for all 6 User programs.
With the latest firmware 1.5.0, it is very easy to switch between whole keyboard and Split (or Layer).
If the KLmk3 is in whole keyboard mode, press the Button 5 (above the screen) that says “SPLIT” or “LAYER”, then press and hold that button and press a key to set the Split point.
If it is Split and you want to go back to Layer, press and hold Button 5 and press the key of the Split point.
To exit SPLIT (or LAYER) mode, simply press the Button 5 again.
If you have already setup the MIDI channel for Part 2, it will be recalled when entering Split or Layer mode.
@Sean_W omg, that is soooo convoluted! I am on stage and I do not have time to do that between songs.
What happened to this being the ultimate controller? Jeez, it cannot even save a split setting to a User slot. Basic, and I mean BASIC controller operation
I’ve sent a request (although what good that will do is debatable) to support asking for then ability to save split points to a User Program slot in a future firmware upgrade.
It sounds more convoluted than it really is.
If you have already created your split point and “channel 1 set to the left split and channel 2 to the right” (which are saved in the Global keyboard settings), it is literally only one button press on Button 5 (SPLIT) to switch between whole keyboard on Ch1 and Split Ch1/Ch2.
That said, I agree that Keyboard settings should be saved on a per Program basis rather than Global, and I also think that it should be implemented in a firmware update.
But, to go back to full keyboard mode, it’s not as simple as just pressing the Split button again, if I understand you correctly. You also need to again press the split point key to clear it,
It is: Press it once to go from whole keyboard to Split, press it once again to go back to whole keyboard.
That is if you want to switch from Split mode to Layer mode (whole keyboard on both Parts/channels simultaneously, instead of whole keyboard only on Part1)
