How do I make an envelop NOT retrigger

Is that even doable on the DX7 V? I’m trying to make a pad sound and I have Mod Env1 modulating the filter cutoff but it just retriggers every note. is it not possible lol? not sure if im using the right terms but is there a way to make the Mod Envelope poly? it’s driving me insane i cant figure out how to do it

i’ve found that i can kinda do that using an LFO with Key Sync turned off but its just not the same lol

There is no Free Run option in the Mod Env. There is however in the SEQ and you could try this to see if it suits your needs. It is stepped though but if you set the Steps to the max of 32 and the speed of the sequence is fast enough, it may simulate a Mod Env or LFO. Indeed, this may give you even more possibilities than a Mod Env or LFO.

so it’s intended to work this way? that makes a lot more sense

Lets say “its by design”.

Ahh alright, I kinda like the additional waveforms that come with he DX7 (rounded saw etc), any other Arturia VSTS that have a similar feature (besides Pigments that is)

Hi @sebby. Welcome back.

Here is how i understand it.

Only the original operator modulation according to the set algorithm and the original Pitch Mod is voice based/ polyphonic.

Using Operator and Pitch Envelopes will also give none voice based results when used as modulators in the Modulation Matrix.
It’s kind of Paraphonic behavior.

As @Funtmaster say, then it’s by design. It would certainly be nice with some optional voice based modulation using the Mod Matrix.

But - DX7 is not a subtractive synthesis synth.
If one for example want to create a polyphonic sound with a filter modulation attack, then there are plenty of subtractive synth that can do that.
DX7 V offer to do that for a Monophonic sound and it offer kind of a paraphonic behavior for Polyphonic sounds.
So DX7 V offers something different the way it is.

Some synth have different kinds of waveforms. Some more than others. Also some synths can alter a waveform in different ways.
For example Prophet VS, SQ-80 and MiniFreak have many waveforms. For example Synclavier offer Additive synthesis where you can create lot’s of waveforms. It’s worth looking at CZ and how that waveform system work. But i suggest you explore all the synths. Also keep in mind that different kind of waveforms and sounds can be created by blending levels, waveforms, tunings and other things.

The Original hardware DX7 only used Sinewave waveforms to create all kinds of waveforms.
