Get MatrixBrute when already owning a PolyBrute 12?

Hi everyone,

I am questioning myself if it is worth getting a MatrixBrute Noir as an addition to my already present PolyBrute 12. The PolyBrute 12 is an absolutely remarkable piece of hardware, and I love this thing. But the features and possibilities in the OSC and filter department are more limiting than they are on the MatrixBrute - at least after having watched quite some reviews etc. So, especially for monophonic lead or bass sounds, the MatrixBrute may be an excellent addition to the sonic capabilities of the PB12.

Currently, the MatrixBrute Noir is still being sold, but I fear that it will be discontinued soon just for the sake that it is already several years old now. And the standard edition was discontinued quite some time ago.

Does anybody here own the MatrixBrute and the PolyBrute (6 or 12)? Is it worth having both, and are the differences significant enough?

Best regards,
Stephan

Hi Stephan,

I myself own a Matrixbrute (aside to my first synth, a Minibrute 2S) and find it very versatile but mostly very “efficient” to build fat basslines, as it’s more a mono synth although it has 3 paraphonic voices available as you said

The point of having both would be using them in live performance, I think it’s not worth it in a studio context, PB12 can do as much but also much more than MB

All I can recommend is to test one and see. I got mine for 950€ a year ago to a very kind man, some are pretty cheap on the second hand market, mostly in very good condition taking into account its price new

Hope that can help, best regards
Yoan

I do get very different things from the MxB than from the PB. It sounds different despite the apparent family ties, and being a monster-mono I approach it differently than a refined poly. Not playing live either, it’s all in the studio. It may seem opulent though :stuck_out_tongue:

You get your point : MB is a pure rawness mono monster, with effects and CV connectivity, whereas PB 12 voices permit more lead/pad/ethereal sounds; it’s a different approach =)

Having a PolyBrute and a MatrixBrute for almost 4 years now and I find both complementing each other very well soundwise. It doesn’t feel like there is much of redundancy to me.
I also enjoy the extended fm possibilies on the MB. I even put my Eurorack in storage because I can do many “modular” sounds with my MB without any cables and have the advantage of patch storage.

Both are the only hardware synths i am using right now and I find them to be a great combination.
