Finding back patches after new Arturia plug-ins installation (Ableton)

Hello,

I need first to explain as clearly as possible the situation that other people might encounter…

Context :

I want to completely re-install my PC, OS, Arturia plug-ins, all.
When done, I re-install my plug-ins, in a new location. (c drive instead of d drive).
And… this is maybe not a good practice, I don’t save my patches, I take one from the library, modify it, save the Ableton file, and usually that’s it because I rarely re-use my patches… When I re-openthe Ableton file, the patch is loaded as modified.

Issue :
Obviously, after re-install, Ableton does not find back the plug-in embedded in the songs (let’s say Modular V3). I cnaged obviously the location of plug-ins in Ableton.
Indeed, the plug-in appears in the list of Ableton plug-ins, but if I drag and drop that plug-in I have the list of factory patches, and I don’t my patch as it was not externally saved as explained before.

When I put back in Ableton the old location of plug-ins (with path to d drive), everything goes well…
But for Arturia Center, nothing is installed…

Is there a way to find back “embedded” patches in an Ableton file when a re-install of plug-ins has been done in a new location and have Arturia center happy with this?
I suppose that this behaviour is linked to the duo Arturia/Ableton, as I suppose that patch info is in the Ableton file, but if Ableton does not find the plug-in at its original location, the patch is lost. At least that’s the way I understand it.

Thanks for your potential help, explanations, ideas, experience…

Hi @440Hz. Welcome to the community.

I suggest you ask in a Ableton Live forum and/ or read in Lives manual and such. Arturias software is not responsible for what Ableton Live save in it’s own files and how.

I don’t use Live. If the patch file store informations to fetch the plugin on the current path set in Live, and the plugin load a preset from it’s own relative path, and the saved tweaks for the loaded plugin is set for the loaded plugin preset, then i would say the locations should not matter as long as it’s the same plugins and presets.
But i can’t tell for sure. I think that’s how it should work. Perhaps it does’nt work like this, so you do need the original paths.

Personally i would save tweaked presets as a safety.

Good luck.
