As a new user of the BeatStep Pro, I was genuinely surprised to find that it does not offer a scale mode for inputting and playing notes. Given the BSP’s strong potential as a live performance tool, this feels like a significant missed opportunity.
Currently, the default keyboard-style layout for the pads can feel unintuitive and somewhat awkward, especially when playing melodies or improvising during a performance. By allowing users to reassign the pads to a folded 2-octave scale — similar to how many modern controllers implement scale modes — the BSP would become far more intuitive and expressive for melodic and harmonic playing.
Implementing a scale mode would not only improve the user experience but also expand the BSP’s appeal to a broader range of musicians, particularly those who use it in live settings where fluidity and playability are crucial. It would strengthen the BSP’s role as both a sequencing powerhouse and a true performance instrument.
I hope you will consider adding this functionality in a future update.
